Restaurants in Italian section

Any recommendations for good Italian restaurants?

Restaurants in Italian section

High end - Boccaccio is excellent. Great food, elegant atmosphere. Nice special-occasion restaurant.

Mid-priced - either Luigi Petti (great food and patio)or LaScala. Both are wonderful. I loved La Scala%26#39;s grilled caesar salad and shrimp fra diavolo (although it was VERY spicy!)

The two that are most famous even among Baltimoreans are Sabatino%26#39;s and Vellegia%26#39;s. Haven%26#39;t been in a long time, but they are generally reliable, if not spectacular. The Sabatino%26#39;s salad dressing is even bottled and sold. Have fun!

A second vote for Sabatinos, never had a bad meal there.

is luigi petti still there?

i swear i just read in a restaurant column a reference to something ';located where luigi petti used to be';?

haven%26#39;t been down there for quite awhile, so i don%26#39;t know

From the Baltimore Sun...

';The latest example of Little Italy%26#39;s diversity comes with the recent opening of Petalo%26#39;s (1002 Eastern Ave., 410-685-0055), where Luigi Petti used to be.

The owners are Rebecca and Sam Hassan, who also run the Afghan Kabob Cafe downtown. You can get traditional Italian food (Petalo%26#39;s has two Italian chefs, Sam Hassan tells me), but there are also Mediterranean dishes like kebabs and American entrees like crab cakes, rack of lamb, lobster and rib-eye steak.';

I hesitate to recommend Sabatino%26#39;s or Velleggia%26#39;s...but indeed, they are famous old school Little Italy restaurants...I believe better choices are Aldo%26#39;s...Amicci%26#39;s...or DaMimmo. This is of course...highly subjective and wars have been fought over less.

I love Sabatinos and Chiparellis.

Sorry, did not know that Luigi Petti had closed!

Amicci%26#39;s is my favorite casual, reasonably priced restaurant in Little Italy. You can%26#39;t go wrong with Chipparelli%26#39;s either.

I went to Ciao Bella for lunch and it was great. Not crowded, may dress casual, and owner Tony is great! Boyfriend took me to high-end Aldo%26#39;s for Valentine%26#39;s Day. It was good, but to be honest I think you are better off with one of the more %26#39;less expensive%26#39; places, their food is comparable.

My vote is defiitely for LaScala, reasonably priced, comfortbable atmosphere and you don%26#39;t have to dress up! And the grilled ceasar salad is out of this world! Big though, two people can split this as an appetizer!
