Hotel in MD or DC

We plan to fly to MD on early of June. We plan to visit DC for a few days. We have several questions to ask:

#1: Where is the best place to stay (from the price side) in DC or MD?

#2: If in MD..then which area or city closed to DC (the safe area please since we bring our toddler)?

#3: Is Baltimore closed to DC? Which side of Baltimore is safe?

#4: Also if in MD, how%26#39;s the transportation to DC?

#5: Is there a good and safe public transportation from MD to DC?

Thanks.

Hotel in MD or DC

#1 - Very hard to answer, there is no one ';best place to stay';. You might have better luck checking the Washington DC forum and looking at the hotel reviews there.

#2 - There are few if any hotels in the close-in Maryland suburbs that I would recommend for Dc visits. Maybe a couple in Silver Spring or Greenbelt, but you%26#39;d spend a fair amount of time and hassle commuting in each day to DC.

#3 - Baltimore is about 40 miles away from Washington. I try not to pick sides. :)

#4 - You can take Metro (subway) into town, but see #2.

#5 - See # 4.

Hotel in MD or DC

If your visting Balt and DC, you might want to stay in Laurel, Maryland. Its right in the middle of both cities with easy access to both. Take the Marc train into Baltimore. Just drive south to College Park or Greenbelt and take the Metro (subway) into DC.

You%26#39;d just want to stay at a good hotel, Holiday Inn or something. Laurel is home to Laurel Park Racecourse and it has some cheap hotels for race fans.
