I%26#39;m from Cleveland and I will be visiting Baltimore on Sunday March 11. I need a hotel that night and would like to stay downtown if possible. I%26#39;m basically looking for cheap and safe, and I don%26#39;t need anything fancy. Hotwire.com has some properties downtown but I am a little skeptical. I have not used Hotwire before and am not sure what to expect. Has anyone here used Hotwire? If so tell me about it. They are offering a 3 star hotel dowtonwn for $72 but I am afraid that it will not be really be downtown or it will be a 1 star hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Where to stay downtown
Downtown for $72 might be a tall order without Hotwire or Priceline. Have you checked out biddingfortravel.com to see what properties are generally included for 3*?
Almost all of the major chains are represented in the downtown area. The Hyatt, Sheraton, Marriott, and Renaissance are all very nice and might be running deals. Check their websites to see. Also, check out the reviews for properties like the Brookshire Suites. They are about a block back from the harbor and might have better deals. Otherwise, I would see what biddingfortravel has to say and then check here for the reviews of the properties in that bucket.

Where to stay downtown
I bid $50 on Priceline last year and got a room in a huge hotel near the hospital downtown - it wasn%26#39;t the greatest hotel, but who can complain for $50. Be sure to pick a three-star hotel in the Inner Harbor area and start low. There%26#39;s a bundle of hotels near the ballpark. Depending on where you walk, you may come across some shady people but nothing you wouldn%26#39;t find in any major city. It%26#39;s a great town to walk around in!
I bid $50 for a room on priceline last year. And got a very nice room at the Residence Inn. It was in walking distance to the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards. It apparently it close to a bad area. We were told to be sure to walk towards the Inner Harbor, not in the opposite direction. It was fine. I never felt unsafe.
