Hi there - we are going to a jazz concert in a couple of weeks at the Avalon and are wondering which place to stay in: Easton or St. Michaels. We will only be staying one night (Sat.) and all the B%26amp;Bs in Easton have minimum stays of two nights on the weekends. So I booked the Tidewater Inn. Then I read a few things that make me think we may not want to stay there.
So, I also booked the St. Michael%26#39;s Harbour Inn - for quite a bit more but there%26#39;s a water view.
Aside from accomodations, are either of these towns a good place to stay at, walk around in, etc? What are their differences?
Also, if others have better suggestions for places to stay, I%26#39;d certainly be interested in hearing them. Thanks!
Easton or St. Michaels?
The drive between the two is close enough that you%26#39;re not really making a choice between the two. One of the shop owners told my husband and I that people who come the first time to the area stay in St.Michaels, get a bit bored after a day, and then come into Easton. The next time they come, she said, they stay in Easton and travel into St. Michaels, instead. This holds some truth to it.
Easton has more shops that feel authentic and that cater to the locals over the tourists, so there%26#39;s a little bit more ';there there'; in wandering the town of Easton. I can%26#39;t speak to the Tidewater Inn, but we had a lovely stay at the Inn at Easton (which may require a longer stay than one night in season) and traveled into St. Michaels for a great lunch at the Crab Claw, got to spend some time eying the water, and then motored back to Easton, easily. But if water views are important to you rather than views of a small town, then you might lean towards St. M%26#39;s. The seafood of St. Michaels--especially now that crab season has opened--speaks strongly for that location, too.
Moral of the story? You%26#39;ll be fine either way.
