Ocean City is MUCH cleaner and nicer than Wildwood NJ...the boardwalk, beach, everything. I would recommend OC over Wildwood anyday!

Ocean City Maryland vs Wildwood New Jersey whats the differe

I used to live in Maryland but we spent summer vacations in Wildwood, NJ., also, Cape May. I went back to OC 2 years ago, Wildwood last year. As another poster said and a friend told me, Wildwood has sunk to an almost scary level. The family charm is long gone and has a thuggish atmosphere on much of the boardwalk...the bar areas are crowded with unsavory looking people wandering in groups, graffiti was everywhere, the crowds were menacing looking as we drove. Motels are delapidated (sp?) and expensive, even off season. It%26#39;s a shame. I used to love that area. OC can get crazy crowded but it still feels nice there. I would much more recommend Rehobeth Beach, DE. or Cape May but I hate that Cape May charges to use the beach.

We always went to Wildwood for our summer beach trips. We no longer do this. Our last trip to Wildwood was terrible. High prices, much less than clean hotels and just dirty everywhere. We now go to Ocean City, Maryland and love it there. We do also love Cape May, NJ but the summer prices are getting very high!

The above posts are bias and completely ludicrous they obviously have never stayed in the Wildwoods I%26#39;m familiar with.We had a family vacation in Wildwood last August and found it to be a most pleasant experience. Wildwood Crest is a quieter section a little further from the Boardwalk but still in close enough proximity for access.I did not see these THUGS one person spoke of any Boardwalk in any part of the world will bring together a unique blend of people. As for over crowded Bars I%26#39;m not sure what their even speaking of the major bar scene has long since left Wildwood as of 1978 and has become more FAMILY ORIENTED.All in all I found Wilwood Crest to be very clean and friendly. My brother still after 34 some odd years swears by OC and there probably is a little bit more activity happening there, but if your looking for a change of pace don%26#39;t sell Wildwood crest short you may enjoy yourself more than expected. Here are some Hotels to research and they are right on rhe beach The Reges and Port Royal ask for the newly renovated rooms like all beach towns including OC age catches up.Also try Cape May for a relaxing day trip in any choice you make ENJOY!

I vacationed many years in Wildwood, NJ, but we switched to Ocean City, MD about 10 years ago because Wildwood seemed to decline in clientele and cleanliness. Plus, the beach in Wildwood is EXTREMELY wide and it takes very long to walk to the actual shoreline with all of your beach gear. We just got tired of doing that and really like being able to stay right on the beach and boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. I will say that the boardwalk in Wildwood is more expansive than Ocean City, MD with several amusement piers and miles of shops and games, but Ocean City%26#39;s is still very nice. Like the poster above me, I have heard more positive things about the Wildwood Crest in recent years...and the nice thing about New Jersey is that many other areas and towns (Cape May, Stone Harbor are all within a short drive).

czang, that%26#39;s true of OC as well. easy drive to assateague island, or any of the delaware towns (bethany beach, dewey, rehoboth, lewes).

Ocean City, hands down. I have vacationed at Wildwood a couple of years ago and I am never going back. I am surprised on how dirty it is gotten and how the MOTELS have gotten all out of shape and expensive. Ocean City has the better choice of hotels, shopping, eating, amusement parks, water parks, mini golf courses, golf, real estate, etc.
