Overnight in Annapolis suggestions?

We are planning to visit DCJuly 3 and to stay in Annapolis for the evening. We had hoped to see DC during the day, head to

Annapolis at dinner and then back to DC for the evening.. Is this possible or just plain crazy??

Also, any suggestions on accomodations? We plan to head to the Chesapeake Bridge on the following day and would like to be positioned so that we can head out from Annapolis without back tracking. We are 9 adults traveling together (cousins, siblings, etc.)

This sounds like a crazy quick trip, but we are trying to show relatives from Europe a few neat areas of the country in a short amount of time.

Thanks for all of your help in advance!

I guess that was your post I answered on the DC forum a little while ago...

Now that you%26#39;re phrasing your plans as above...yes, it%26#39;s a bit much.

I would think your European visitors would enjoy July 4th in Washington, very impressive fireworks, parade, nice holiday atmosphere...

If that%26#39;s not possible for whatever reason, I would still just stay in DC on the night of the 3rd. Stop by Annaplis for an hour or so in the morning on your way to...well, I%26#39;m not sure where you%26#39;re headed, but please don%26#39;t make the ';Chesapeake Bridge'; your final destination as you%26#39;re likely to tie up traffic and make the local news! :)

You%26#39;re likely to find a ';commute'; out of DC, down to Annapolis for dinner and then BACK to DC to be a lot more time and effort than you%26#39;d want to make on a vacation, especially with 9 people.

Not be the bearer of bad news, but you are picking a very busy time for a leasurely drive to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

The Bay Bridge is infamous for back-ups during the summer beach season and you are picking one of the busiest beach holidays of the year for your excursion.

I would allow for at least an hour (probably worse at rush hour on July 3) back-up on the eastbound side of the bridge through Annapolis on toll plazas. Unless you can justify sitting in stop and go traffic for that long for a ten minute ride over the Bridge, I would bag the Bay Bridge part of the trip.
