Any reccomendations?? Not too close to the boardwalk...more towards the ';beginning';.. Thanks in advance!!
Looking For A Hotel ON The Beach..
We just got back from Ocean City. We stayed at the Hilton and we LOVED it. It%26#39;s not on the boardwalk and is about a 20 minute walk away from it, it seemed. I highly recommend it.
Looking For A Hotel ON The Beach..
Hmmm...if you don%26#39;t mind me asking..was it terribly expensive??
Because we went when we did, it was only $450 for two nights. I know the rates go way up very soon, however. I%26#39;m not sure when you were planning to go, but we originally had our room booked for the weekend of June 9th and we were going to be paying $309 per night then. It seems like the rates go up very quickly. But for the $450 we paid, we feel it was worth every penny.
The Hilton is located on 32nd St. The boardwalk nothern end of the board walk starts at 27th St. It doesn%26#39;t take 20 minutes to walk 5 blocks in OC.
About 2 Ocean City blocks are equivalent to 1 block in NYC.
Mink66, we were walking with a four- and five-year-old and it did seem to take about 20 minutes. Maybe full grown adults who don%26#39;t stop to look at things in the sand, watch the parasailors, etc. could make it in less time - and in fact they should make it in less time - but I was saying how long it took US.
Why, oh why, are the people on these boards so incredibly jumpy about things like that? Get over yourself.
Elaine
I don%26#39;t think Mink was being jumpy. I think he was just stating a fact a lot of people don%26#39;t know that Ocean blocks are shorter than city blocks. For years I wondered this but now I have the facts. And after all these years I thought the Ocean air was making me walk stronger and longer lol!!!!!
Sorry ElaineR, but when I see something mis-stated on these boards I try to correct it so others don%26#39;t get the wrong impression.
Now that you have CLARIFIED your original statement with ';well, we were walking with a 4 and 5 year old, and we were stopping to look at the sights like the parasailers';, then it makes perfect sense that it may have taken YOU what ';seemed'; like 20 minutes.
Your original statement is clearly misleading for those who have never visited OC before.
Also ElaineR, were you walking along the beach or on the sidewalk? If you were walking along the beach, then perhaps that slowed your journey as well. And if you were walking along the beach, then mentioning that in your original post would have helped as well.
**About 2 Ocean City blocks are equivalent to 1 block in NYC.**
Sorry, not even close. NYC blocks--at least the numbered streets-- are actually shorter! The first thing I noticed my first time in NYC as I walked north-south was how short the blocks were compared to other big cities (DC, Baltimore, Philly).
There are 156 east-west streets forming blocks in Ocean City, along its length of 9.02 miles. So each block is an average of 305 feet, or about 17 blocks to the mile.
Looking at NYC (numbered streets from 1st to 126th, along First Avenue): 125 blocks, 6.24 miles. Each block is an average of 263 feet, or about 20 to the mile.
I%26#39;m not making this up. Check it out on Google Earth if you don%26#39;t believe me.
As someone mentioned earlier, there are distractions that make the walk either take or seem longer than it should...parasailers in OC, and crowds of people and traffic signals at every block slowing your walk in NYC. But if you%26#39;re a committed walker, it%26#39;s easy to rack up a large number of blocks quickly in either place.
Chalk one up to tubman, looks like he is correct. Thanks for correcting me.
I still maintain however that If your intent is walk 5 blocks in OC and not dilly-dally around it will take no where near 20 minutes to complete.
