Hi -it%26#39;s probably been asked before but:
Looking to try some great crab cakes when we visit. The #1 rated on here does not look much like a dining in restaurant......... would like to find a good sit down (doesn%26#39;t need to be too fancy) restaurant for crab cakes preferably within 2 miles or walking distance from the Tremont Plaza hotel where I%26#39;ve finally booked us - they have a free shuttle w/in 2 mile radius. OR is Faidleys that much better that it%26#39;s a must do?
Thanks!
Best crab cake restaurant
This is usually a loaded topic on this forum, as all the natives have their favorite (G%26amp;M in the county is mine), so it%26#39;s good you specified some requirements.
The closest sit-downs with great crab cakes in range of your shuttle would be Bo Brooks in Canton, which while subjective, their crab cakes are generally preferred more than O%26#39;Brycki%26#39;s, a venerable Baltimore institution in the slightly closer Fells Point.
Keep in mind that when you order the crab cake, a platter is two crab cakes and a ';sandwich'; is just one. Either way, always order it on crackers and not on a roll. The crackers come on the side, and the last thing you need is a kaiser roll getting in the way of your crab cake (and filling you up too much to keep you from enjoying the second one).
Renfield
Best crab cake restaurant
Thanks for specifying renfield because I would have had no clue which to order!
My husband has been eating crabs for years in the Maryland area. In his opinion, Bo Brooks stinks! He likes the crab cakes at Friends, they have have a crab cake platter, very reasonably price, loads of crab, little filler. It is a bar on Aliceanna Street in Fells Point. Great Jukebox too! And for those who don%26#39;t eat seafood the potstickers and the mini-burgers are to die for!
Tinatroy - thanks for the recommendation - my husb isn%26#39;t really a big crab cake fan - what are potstickers???
Pot stickers are basically steamed dumplings, at Friends they are served in a nifty woven Japanese steamer basket with side of yummy ginger/soy sauce. Really good, hard to share though, you get 5 in an order. Darn restaurants always serve you an odd number! We always split the last one!
Well my husb hates dumplings too but he does love bars %26amp; beer so I%26#39;m quite sure if we went here he%26#39;d find something. Thanks!
Great beer selection on tap, husband prefers the Resurection. Local brew I believe. Plenty of other things as well on the menu, very diverse, pizza, sandwiches, veggie stuff and a stuffed filet that you can cut with a fork. Enjoy!
Try Nicks Fish House on Insulator Dr.- should only be 2 miles from Tremont. LOts of other good seafood too. Faidleys would be good to run in and take some crab cakes to go.
Shuckers in Fells Point has fantastic crab cakes. Its a great location too - right on the water.
Faidleys has FANTASTIC crab cakes but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it if you want a nice place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
Faidleys is located in Lexington Market downtown and is really a ';permanent'; stand inside the market. There is no place to sit down, just some tables scattered around where you can set your food down for a few minutes and then rush off. But if you happen to be in the neighborhood and want a quick bite, I would definitely stop by!
