Must see places

What are the places in northern Maryland near the PA border or 50 miles from it that we should see? We will be returning home over Memorial Day week-end and would like some suggestions of must sees. Our family consists of adults and young adults with our interests being history, beautiful places, unique places, etc.Thank you for your assistance.

Must see places

';Must see'; is a very subjective term--a lot depends on what you%26#39;ve already experienced and what%26#39;s available near you. For example, Cunningham Falls is spectacular if you%26#39;ve never seen a waterfall before. But if you have seen a waterfall higher than 78 feet, you%26#39;ll likely be disappointed.

I%26#39;m assuming you want some stopping off points for a few hours and not overnighting. With all that in mind, here are some suggestions, many transcending the boundaries of historic/beautiful/unique:

Tubman, thank you for your suggestions. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Also, inexpensive places to eat along this route?We enjoy excellent cuisine, but when we are on vacation we want casual and inexpensive.

What route are you taking? I guess your starting point, where you%26#39;re headed, and any of the attractions you%26#39;re planning on seeing would help determine what%26#39;s along the way.

Routes through Maryland are a lot different depending on whether you%26#39;re passing through on your way back from, say, Philadelphia, the beaches of Maryland/Delaware, or Washington, DC.

We are leaving Philadelphia and going to the NJ- DE beaches, hoping to take the ferry. Then, we want to come back north and then west. Our goal is to try to avoid some of the Baltimore and DC traffic. Thank you
