We are thinking of going to Annapolis for Memorial Day weekend and we wanted a hotel with an outside pool. The Doubletree looks like it has an outside pool. Has anyone ever stayed here? Can we walk/bike to downtown from this location?
Also, if someone could recommend a great place to have breakfast. We really don%26#39;t like fancy, just good old fashoned home cooking, bacon/egss/potatoes and omeletes.
Thanks
Memorial Day weekend
For Memorial Day weekend in Annapolis, it might be a bit cold for an outside pool still. It is only a few weeks away and it is not close to pool weather yet. Plus the weather can be variable here on Memorial Day.
The DoubleTree is an former Holiday Inn that has remodeled / renovated. I have not stayed there, but have the impression that it is an adequate hotel. It is much too far to walk downtown and the route downtown from the DoubleTree is still a bit far and not bike friendly. I think they might have a free shuttle though.
Another option might be the Sheraton, which has an indoor pool (safer bet for Memorial Day) and I know they have a free shuttle as I see it around town all the time.
If you stay at the DoubleTree, I would recommend the Double TT Diner for breakfast. It would satisfy your home cooked breakfast requirement. I prefer the Main Ingrediant for breakfast, but it is further from the hotel and bit more fancy.
There are allot of places with great Sunday brunches too. I will list some if you are interested.
Memorial Day weekend
You can not bike or walk to down town from the hotel you were considering or from those recommended. And being walking or biking distance is essential to get the full flavor of this unique pedestrian city.
Do you have children traveling with you? I presume that is why the pool is important. The new Westin Hotel might fit the bill for pool (don%26#39;t know) and walkable to down town.
MDCory ... do you think that the Westin will be open on Memorial Day? Last that I heard it was going to be later in June.
The Westin website says:
';Now accepting reservations for arrival on or after October 1, 2007';
Not looking good for Memorial Day I%26#39;m afraid.
Foremost, the midshipmen graduate this weekend. So avoid Annapolis AT ALL COSTS! Weather here has been variable, but still a bit chilly for the pool. We have a pool in our backyard here and it is heated and I still haven%26#39;t been in yet! Great place to have breakfast- Chic %26amp; Ruth%26#39;s deli in downtown Annapolis. They have the best breakfast! They are right off main street in downtown.
Hi-
Is the graduation sat or sun?
How bad can the traffic really get by the way? and the downtown?
wondering if we can still go...
thanks pc
is it still going to be too crowded you think on sunday? We are planning on going on Sunday -
graduation was on Thursday I gather?
THANKS!
pc
Graduation was at 10:00AM today (Friday).
Traffic is horrendous today. Especially in the morning prior to graduation and immediately afterwards. Memorial Day weekend beach traffic makes things even worst.
However, allot of folks leave town after Graduation. It still will be a busy weekend in town, but not impossible to get around. Parking might be tighter than usual downtown, but there are a few garages (Gotts %26amp; Knightley) that are a further walk but should have some spaces.
If you are planning on a day visit on Sunday, you will probably be okay ... things will be crowded but not impossible. However, if you are overnighting, Memorial Day traffic on Route 50 may be nasty again on Monday.
Thanks so much!
yes just planningon day trip for sunday since mon traffic would be bad again!
