if you could live anywhere, where would it be?

If you could live anywhere in MD, where would it be?

If you could live ANYwhere, where would it be?

Why?

Thanks,

Celle

Celle,

I would live right where I do, Annapolis. Ideally, in a nicer, grander, waterfront house in the historic district.

The reasons are multiple. Annapolis itself is a very charming and pleasant little city with plenty of fine dining and attractions. The scale is wonderful...the quirky, odd mix of politicians, artists, Midshipmen and the students of St. John%26#39;s always amazes. There is MORE colonial architecture in Annapolis than in Williamsburg, VA!

Proximity to additional culture and recreation is nearly unmatched in the country. With Baltimore and DC each roughly 25 miles away...additional museum life, dining, major league sports and eccentric city life is a very short journey.

The Chesapeake Bay offers sailing, boating, fishing, swimming...bird watching...antiquing...all within a short journey...either on the water or the land.

BWI airport is just 15 minutes, making the rest of the world pretty close as well...

The climate is variable and actually quite mild, although extremes can occur..and quite closely follows the calender...so you get to feel every season...but not for long. Spring and Fall are incredibly, sublimely beautiful...

It%26#39;s a pretty nice place...

Prankster (as in On The Bus?),

Thanks for your reply. It sounds wonderful.

How are home prices?

Celle,

Yes, decidedly on the bus...so, Furthur!

Home prices are fairly obscene...but California%26#39;s are too, so a decent exchange is possible. The Historic District is nearly all 1million or above, but some close-in, suburban type city neighborhoods are still approachable...for the mildly wealthy and/or well employed...$500,000-600,000 for some OK places with character...Townhomes run from about $300,000...

The main zip to search is 21401...21403 also has excellent property.

Prankster,

A million bucks? Money sure has become the modern day acid test.

Thanks much!

I have to divide this into two parts:

Main location: Laurel/Columbia region. It%26#39;s right between DC and Baltimore, there is tons of stuff to do, the schools are good and the neighborhoods are great.

Weekend/Vacation location - Deep Creek Lake (Garrett County) Located in the western mountains of the state, this place has everything! A huge 14 mile man-made lake with plenty of water activities, a terrific ski/tubing resort, and just about every outdoor activity you can think of. The snow gets a little deep come February but this is the perfect place to get away from it all....and you don%26#39;t have to fight the Bay Bridge traffic.

I was born and raised in Maryland and can safely say that nothing in Maryland would be anywhere near as nice as Napa Valley.

Having grown up in Annapolis, I would advise you to not move here unless you don%26#39;t have children, or were prepared to send them to a private school. While not the worst in the state (thank you Baltimore and PG County) the schools in Annapolis are pretty bad and I couldn%26#39;t wait to move from there. If you have kids and you have your heart set on living in Annapolis, try the Cape St. Claire community or anywhere near Broadneck High School, a far better school than Annapolis.

Two extremes....either the Eastern Shore in a huge victorian style home with alot of land. OR Little Italy or Federal Hill in a historic rowhome with a brick living room wall. :)

Thank you, Everyone, for the very helpful info!

In MD -- we live on the Frederick/Washington county border near Camp David nestled in the Catoctin Mountains -- about an hour from DC and Baltimore with Frederick only about 25 minutes away. We have the benefits of the wilderness with the convenience of the big city if we need some culture and the best part -- $200-300K for some really nice properties.

Anywhere -- hands down -- South Island of New Zealand -- spectacular landscapes with wonderful people! Hawaii would be the 2nd choice but both have pesky quarantines for beloved pets!
