Have not been before, going this year, wondering if anyone had any helpful info on going. how is parking? Coming from Fells Point, is it easier to take a cab? Also how crowded? Do they sell beer there, like a beer garden, etc? Checked out the website but doesn%26#39;t answer too many questions. Also, is it really worth the trip? Looks like fun!
Helpful Hints for HonFest 2007?
Glad you are coming up for HonFest. Whether its really worth the trip is up to you but I think its always nice to tour other neighborhoods and see how different they are from my own; I really like that about Baltimore as a whole. From Fells a cab would be easy but it might be harder to find one for the ride back, you%26#39;ll probably have to call one and wait. You should be fine driving up yourself. Of course, you will also likely have to park five or six blocks away from all the action but that will just allow you to see more of the neighborhood. I would suggest avoiding Falls Rd as much as possible. Perhaps enter the neighborhood via Keswick or Roland Avenue. Falls will be a mess of traffic.
It is usually very crowded with people, especially in the afternoon. Walking in straight lines and just not bumping into others is practically impossible.
Beer is sold - its Hampden! Usually from the Brewer%26#39;s Art. There is a stage set up on each end of the Avenue for a band and there is beer and a few tables and chairs at those locations. All the Avenue bars and restaurants will also be open and peddling their own beverages inside. Suzie Soba makes a delicious ginger lemonade if you need serious hydration after the beer.
Hope you decide to give Hampden try and that you enjoy your day.
Helpful Hints for HonFest 2007?
Thanks for all the help! Do you have specific driving directions from Fells Point, not too familiar with the Hampden area? Say from Eastern Avenue? Sounds like we will have a good time!
These are ';back entrance'; directions to Hon Fest. There is a more direct route into Hampden using the Falls Rd exit if you decide to come back anytime besides HonFest.
From Eastern, take 83 North to 28th Street.
Left on Sisson.
Straight, slight right to continue on to Keswick, you%26#39;ll see the street signs at the intersection just past the dump. Continue on Keswick about a mile. Once you get to Keswick and 33rd, start looking for parking. That%26#39;s the five block mark to the Avenue. (The Hon fun will be at 36th St and Chestnut on that end. Chestnut is one block up from Keswick).
