we are visiting baltimore in may and catching a game. how is the neighborhood at the ballpark? we will be staying at the hampton inn on washington blvd. because of a great deal. it is far to the inner harbor from there. also, it is safe to take the train to dc and how long is the ride?

pchr,
The neighborhood is OK, on the edge of downtown. The hotel is brand spanking new and it%26#39;s 4 blocks to the Inner Harbor. It%26#39;s right next door to a couple of bars that service pre and post game crowds. Ras Doobie/Carolyn%26#39;s Cafe Jamaican Restaurant is tucked away in the neighborhood, but little else of note is right there. More options appear as one gets closer to the harbor...
It%26#39;s safe to take the train(?) and it takes about an hour. There are 2 train stations, 3 lines. MARC is the commuter train that leaves from Camden Station, just on the other side of the stadium from the hotel, weekdays only. MARC also has a run from Penn Station, which serves AMTRAK.

That hotel is in a good spot , I think. I work one block up at University of Maryland Medical Center and there are several favorites we have- The Penn [ 1 block down from the hotel } has really good greek food, Kirby%26#39;s [ sandwiches, soups and salads and some yummy specials] is 1 1/2 blocks on Redwood St, Cafe on the Square in right on Paca St about 2 blocks up, and there are also 2 new coffee and sandwich shops , one is right on Washington Blvd. almost right next to the hotel- Peace and a cup of Joe and the other . The hotel is literally across the st from the stadium- really good location. The you can just walk a few blocks down and be right at the Inner Harbor area. You will not have an trouble around the ballpark. Like any big city you just need to use good judgement- would I walk alone back to hotel at 12M? - absolutely not! But the University of Maryland campus is right there as well as the hospital and lots people around. You certainly can take the train to dc- depending on when you are coming [ weekdays or WE] you could take the Amtrak @ Penn Station or the MARC train at Camden Station- give or take - 50 min.
