Getting from Baltimore to Wash. DC by light rail?

We will be in Baltimore for a wedding and want to take advantage of the closeness of Washington, D.C. Is it unreasonable to think that we could stay in a Baltimore hotel and go back and forth to Washington, DC to sightsee? I%26#39;m not sure if public transportation (light rail or train) makes frequent trips back and forth.

Getting from Baltimore to Wash. DC by light rail?

Not via light rail, but by commuter rail during the week and/or Amtrak trains.

The commuter trains are the ';MARC'; trains, you can find info here:

And if it%26#39;s on the weekend the regular Amtrak train can get you there. Check their website for specific rates.

If you like Greyhound it%26#39;s about $25.00 round trip p/p.

Just thought I would add my two cents in about the MARC train. There are two different lines, the Camden and Penn. Take a cab to Penn Station in Baltimore and take that line. It is much faster and there are more trains throughout the day. The Camden line starts right at Camden Yards, but it runs on the CSX tracks, is much slower and there really aren%26#39;t many times offered except during peak hours.

how about from Baltimore to NYC? My predicament- fly into BWI in the morning with one carryon, going to the Orioles day game, Amtrak after the game to NYC. I need a place to store my carryon till the train. Do I train it out of BAL or BWI. I can rent a car for about $25 because of my discount, but another board said better to take light rail from BWI to Camden. Where do I store luggage for the day? Amtrak stations have lockers?

TC,

Sounds like one piece of luggage is making you jump through a whole lot of hoops. I%26#39;m not sure about luggage storage at the Amtrak stations, but I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;d want to backtrack to BWI after the game to continue your journey.

Have you thought about FedExing it to your destination in NYC? You could certainly keep the more valuable items or stuff you need during your flight in a smaller carryon and take it to the game with you (you can bring into the ballpark any bag that fits into a 16'; x 16'; x 8'; box).

A rental car certainly addresses your luggage issue and sounds like a bargain at $25, but you also need to factor in parking at the game, gas, about $20 in tolls and possible congestion driving to NYC, and out-of-sight parking rates once you get there.

I use to take the MARC to DC for work everyday out of the BWI station and they didn%26#39;t have lockers. Not sure if they do now. I%26#39;ve read in other forums about FedEx%26#39;ing luggage. Not a bad idea...I agree with the previous poster about not renting a car. Even though the initial $25 sounds good, you%26#39;ll end up spending even more money. You won%26#39;t need a car in NYC.

yes, thanks, the one piece of luggage is killing my planning. The rent a car is only for BWI to Camden and back, will probably have to drive in commute traffic to BWI. I%26#39;ve done US Postal, not Fed Ex-ing, I think I%26#39;ll use the rental car as an expensive storage locker and transportation. Thanks everyone.

just got an email from Amtrak, the Penn Station in the city can check luggage so it looks like I%26#39;m light railing it in to Penn Station, then Camden and Amtrak-ing it out of Penn, thanks everyone.

That makes the most sense. The Light Rail can get you from BWI to Camden Yards and Penn Station so no reason to rent a car to drive in our traffic!!!
