Deep Creek Lake area - near town

We are considering going to Deep Creek for a weekend. We would like to have a place that is pretty close to town i.e. dining, bars, shopping, etc. without having to drive too far. When looking at property rental sites, they ask what area you would like to stay in to help narrow down your search. Is anyone familiar enough with the lake areas to help guide me in the right direction for my searches?

Thanks in advance!

The Deep Creek Lake area doesn%26#39;t really have a town center. The restaurants, stores, and such are mostly spread out along the major road that leads through the area, Route 219. The main concentration of businesses are in McHenry. Some of the realty companies have maps that will give you a pretty good idea of the lay of the land. Try this one:

Thanks for the input Helena - I will check it out.

We rent a house there every year with a group of friends and absolutely love it! McHenry really is the ';center'; of the Deep Creek area with most of the shops and restaurants located on the main road (Route 219).

I would recommend something near Route 219 and Glendale Road. There are a lot of terrific vacation rentals in that area and a lot of them are right on the lake. We rent a house that is about 3 miles from that intersection and it is very convenient being nestled away in the woods yet still close to all of the amenities.
