authentic eastern shore vacation

My Husband and I just moved to Maryland (just outside of DC). We want to spend a 3-day weekend on the Eastern shore for our 1 year wedding anniversary this July. I can%26#39;t figure out which town/area to visit (Tilghman, Tangier, Crisfield, Oxford??).

We%26#39;d like small town romance, a lot of seafood (we love oysters and crabs), and maybe a little nightlife (a small tiki bar or crab deck?). We are pretty laid back/low maintenance and are not looking for anything too fancy, crowded, or touristy (St. Michael%26#39;s sounds too developed to me). Can you suggest some authentic Eastern Shore towns to visit? Any suggestions for lodging /restaurants?

Thanks!

How about Chincoteague Island in VA. Its right on the VA - MD border. There%26#39;s enough going on to keep your mind occupied. Plenty of seafood.

Assateague Island has the beach, birds and wild ponies.

Of what you listed I%26#39;d pick St. Michaels. There%26#39;s some good seafood in Tilghman but not a whole lot else. If you don%26#39;t go to St. Michael, try it and Tilghman as a daytrip sometime.

I don%26#39;t think that St. Michaels would be ';too developed';. It is a very small town and very quaint. Plus it meets your criteria for good seafood; a crab deck; and tiki bar.

If not St. Michaels, you could give Rock Hall / Chestertown a shot. They are about 20 minutes apart. Rock Hall is probably more authenic ';eastern shore';, but Chestertown is really cool. They are bout 20 minutes apart and there is a shuttle so you could stay in one and visit the other.
