We%26#39;re considering going to the festival this summer. From what I%26#39;ve read the venue isn%26#39;t in a great area, %26amp; there%26#39;s no nice hotels within a close proximity. I haven%26#39;t been to Baltimore since I was very young, %26amp; the rest of my family have never been. In other words, we don%26#39;t know anything about the city. I don%26#39;t really know where to start, when looking for a hotel. We like nice hotels, %26amp; it needs to be pet friendly. I can figure that out for myself though, if you guys would point me in the right direction of which area to search in. Thanks in advance for your help.
What's the best area to stay in for Virgin Music Festival?
Ontheroad,
It%26#39;s true, Pimlico isn%26#39;t close to many hotels, but is it close to one great area, Mt. Washington. The nearest facility of any type is the Mt. Washington Conference Center. I understood they once rented rooms...but the website doesn%26#39;t say much about it, so that may have been in the past...or just part of the ';convention/meeting'; process.
Cross Keys is pretty close...with the Radisson. Next closest would be the Doubletree Hopkins or the Carlisle. Something tells me none of these will suffice...
After that...it%26#39;s either downtown or Towson or Hunt Valley...

What kind of pet are we talking about here? You%26#39;re going to leave it in the hotel room for 12+ hours while you go to the show?
I read that there will be shuttles from the Rogers Avenue metro stop. Any good hotels that are on the metro line?
No hotels near the Rogers Avenue metro stop. That is not the best area. I would stick with the ones mentioned above (Mt Washington at the Doubletree Colonnade at Hopkins). Both are quick and cheap cab rides to Pimlico.
I found this info on pet friendly hotels. I don%26#39;t know how accurate it is, though.

None of them are particularly close to Pimlico.
Thanks. I was asking about hotels near ANY metro stop, I wasn%26#39;t clear. I was thinking I could stay at hotel, take the metro to Rogers Ave and catch the shuttle there. Cabs may not be a good option since last year this event had over 40,000 people attend.
I lived in Roland Park which is in the Mt Washington area and attended several Preakness events at Pimlico, each time getting a cab. It wasn%26#39;t an issue.
Thanks.
Thanks for all the suggestions. They really do help, when you%26#39;re unfamiliar with an area. Knowing where not to stay is as important as knowing where to stay.
I performed a Google search for Mt. Washington, %26amp; didn%26#39;t see any hotels. There were restaurants, shops, etc., but no hotels. Am I looking in the wrong place? I haven%26#39;t had a chance to look into the other areas, but will ASAP.
PS: Sorry it took me a while to get back to this thread. For some reason, I%26#39;m not getting email notifications letting me know someone has replied. I%26#39;m glad I decided to check just in case.
Try the Lutherville, Timonium, Cockeysville area. Its about 10 minutes north of Pimlico on 83. The light rail runs parallel to 83 so maybe you could take that and they might have shuttles, they do at Preakness. All the chains are there Holiday Inn, Red Roof ect.
there is also a full service hilton in Pikesville off Reistertown Road. Not sure if it is pet friendly. With no traffic, this is a 20 min cab ride to Pimlico.
