Good seafood

Hey there,

My boyfriend and I are spending an evening this month at a b%26amp;b in historic Annapolis, The Scotlaur Inn. However, neither of us has ever been to Annapolis and I would love some suggestions about where to eat on Saturday night. I%26#39;ve heard good things about the Ram%26#39;s Head Tavern, but we both love good seafood - any suggestions within walking distance? We%26#39;d like to stay ';downtown.';

Thanks!

Good seafood

The best seafood is probably not in downtown, but it is within walking distance. It is over the Spa Creek Bridge in Eastport at Rockfish or O%26#39;Learys. It is a bit long (less than a mile probably from your B%26amp;B) but a beautiful walk. Some of the best views in town are from the Spa Creek Bridge.

Ram%26#39;s Head Tavern is fun brew pub with great bands in club, happy hours, and their own beer, but the food is more of pub food and their seafood is average.

To stay in historic district and have seafood, I would lean more toward McGarvey%26#39;s or Harry Browne%26#39;s. Phillips and Buddys both push their seafood menus, but I personally would avoid them. Phillips is a local chain and their menu is kinda prefab and Buddys is a pure tourist trap.

Good seafood

The good thing too about the better restaurants in Annapolis is that even if they don%26#39;t have seafood in their name they still serve it up on their menus. As the previous poster mentioned O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s gets top marks and their specialy is seafood.

Don%26#39;t be afraid to try other places like Osteria 177, a new italian place, that is getting great reviews. It%26#39;s menu features whole roasted fish, rockfish (a local favorite), pastas with shrimp, scallops, calamari, etc.

I think Ramshead is great for drinks and appetizers but the food is just ok. Another new place getting great reviews is Kyma, serving tapas style mediterranean dishes with a Chesapeake touch. Both are walkable from dowtown.

Another great pre-dinner cocktail place would be the Chart House. They have the best location overlooking the water and Annapolis. There food is quite excellent too, with a great variety of seafood, but I always like to try the really local places. So if you go to O%26#39;Learys, stop into the Chart House for a drink. They are almost next door to each other.

Along with what the others have said, If your looking for something in the sushi category and a nice cozy and friendly atmosphere I would head to Joss Cafe for some really good sushi. If bar food is your thing, take a cab to Hero%26#39;s or walk to Aramadillo%26#39;s. It%26#39;s also hard to beat the atmosphere at the Mexican Cafe. Although it is also a short cab ride. There is more to good food than the price!

It depends on how much $$$ you want to drop. O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s is very good and quite expensive. You better make a reservation. Also, it is kinda tight in there (as in not a ton of elbow room). Another good place is Carroll%26#39;s Creek. Again, kinda expensive, but good views and awesome food. A reservation is a good idea. It%26#39;s a good place for a romantic date: on the water, great wine list, and you get to walk over the Spa creek bridge from downtown to Eastport, which I think is a plus (not far at all - an easy walk). McGarvey%26#39;s is way more laid back, and thus noisy. The food (in my opinion) isn%26#39;t that great but it is a cool place for drinks. If I were you I%26#39;d go to McGarvey%26#39;s for a drink and then stroll over to Carroll%26#39;s Creek. In fact, I have done that date many times and it never lets me down. I don%26#39;t like Phillip%26#39;s - think chain and many tourists. Stay away from Buddy%26#39;s unless you like seafood from a box. Chart House is pretty touristy and expensive but has a nice view. Ram%26#39;s Head food is just ok, but the Tavern Ale is awesome. They have bands play there and that might be a fun after dinner thing to do. If you like Thai go to Lemongrass --it is just awesome. All those places probably have websites.

also, remember that there%26#39;s a local version of everything and it%26#39;s usually better.

Downtown Examples:

go to City Dock instead of Starbucks

go to Storm Brothers instead of Ben %26amp; Jerry%26#39;s
