parking at travel plaza

I am taking a bus to NYC in March from the Baltimore Travel Plaza. It is a weekend trip. Can I leave my car there over the weekend? Do they allow that? I saw on a previous post something about that they make you pay to park there. But I went for a day to NYC in December and left my car at the Travel Plaza and did not pay. It was just a parking lot, not attendants, not meters. If I can%26#39;t leave my car for the weekend, what ar my alternatives?

parking at travel plaza

It%26#39;s a parking lot without attendants and without meters, but you failed to mention (or notice) the ';permit parking only'; signs. You can buy your permit from inside the Plaza and park as long as you like (I think it%26#39;s $10 a day). I suspect you were lucky if you made it through a day there without a problem.

In a perfect world, you%26#39;ll find someone to drop you off/pick you up at the Plaza. It%26#39;s not the greatest area and I wouldn%26#39;t be comfortable leaving my car in an unattended lot for an extended period of time.

parking at travel plaza

No I did not mention (OR NOTICE) a permit sign. My car was there from 5:30 am until midnight. No problems. Where would one purchase a permit?

I would not leave my car there for a whole weekend. A lot of people walk through that area.

I wouldn%26#39;t leave my car there either. Not only is it in a questionable area, but I%26#39;ve actually been at a function at the Best Western hotel there at which guests were having their cars towed outside for not displaying the proper permit.

Visit

My wife and I may be staying a couple days in Annapolis for a little vacation. Any tips for B%26amp;Bs are things to see/do/eat?

Thanks!

Visit

I have lived in annapolis my whole life, but i couldn%26#39;t tell you where to stay, i have heard the b %26amp; b%26#39;s are nice though. as for food-

the restaurants downtown are pretty basic bar food. For Italian go to Mangias at the end of main street by mills liquors.

if you have a car or don%26#39;t mind a walk, over the spa creek bridge into eastport there is the best steak house ever , Lewnes Restaurant. Pricey, but you won%26#39;t have a better steak. for casual , there is davis%26#39;s pub in eastport. they are known for their crabcakes.

Out of the downtown area is a restaurant named Jalapenos in the parole area. it is our absolute favorite place to go. always delicious, it is mostly spanish, not mexican- the owner gonzalo is great!

hope this helps

Visit

B%26amp;B%26#39;s- Annapolis Inn (expensive), Governor Calvert House, Maryland Inn, The Robert Johnson House, The Gatehouse, Georgian House, State House Inn. Google these and you should find all the info needed. All are within the historic district and will have easy access to all sites, restaurants, etc.

Hotels: Mariott (only waterfront hotel in Annapolis) If you can cop a room with a balcony you can watch the constant parade of boats and other activity in the harbor (in season). Loews, a very nice property located on West Street in a newly refurbished area. Still walking distance to everything. O%26#39;Callaghan - nice Irish owned hotel a bit further down on West.

Depending on when you are coming, you should try to get on the water with several different charter companies. Watermark cruises take off from City Dock. ';Woodwind I %26amp; II depart from Pussers at the Marriott. One of the sailboats was featured in the movie the ';Wedding Crashers.';

There are quite a few historic homes you can tour, plenty of quaint shopping on Main Street, West Street and Maryland Avenue. The Naval Academy has tours or you can just visit the grounds and visitor center on your own. You need id%26#39;s to get in, but just go to the visitor center (a mini museum in its own right) and you will get a map of the property. The Basilica and and the crypt of John Paul Jones is worth seeing.

The State House is one of the oldest in the nation and you can enter for free and take a look around. It%26#39;s interesting and fun. There are self guided tours you can do and you can find what you need for that at the Historic Annapolis Museum Store.

Restaurants are a plenty so it really depends what you are hankering for. There are several seafood places but the top one would be O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s across the short bridge in Eastport. Phillip%26#39;s is a chain and only so so. Buddy%26#39;s is a tourist trap. Some excellent italian, eclectic, asian, american restaurants are right downtown. Depending on which ones you are interested in, reservations are strongly encouraged. Especially for Lewne%26#39;s (mentioned by a previous poster) and O%26#39;Leary%26#39;s.

Even if you don%26#39;t stay at the Marriott. If the weather is nice you have to sit outside at Pusser%26#39;s and have a drink. The views and the action is always fun.

  • Best mailorder crab cakes?

I thought the Baltimore TA forum would be the best place to ask for recommendations for mailorder crab cakes--help me do my Christmas shopping and let me know which ones you think are the best.

    Thanks.

    Best mailorder crab cakes?

Our favorite is the G%26amp;M Restaurant, although Faidley%26#39;s in Lexington Market also gets rave reviews.

    http://www.gandmcrabcakes.com/

    Best mailorder crab cakes?

I personally find the crab cakes at G+M%26#39;s not a true Baltimore crab cake. They are more like a crab imperial- too wet for my taste. However, they are big and others seem to like them. Faidleys would be my choice. Also, Romano%26#39;s in Glen Burnie has a nice crab cake. You can check them out or order them from their site. I think it is www,romanodining.com [ if wrong just google Romano%26#39;s Restaurant in Glen Burnie}.

The best mail order crab cakes are G%26amp;M. The cakes are all crab meat and about the ';Best Crab Cake in Baltimore.'; The have a website, here is the link http://www.gandmcrabcakes.com/. Try them, they are the ';Best';.

Ask 20 people in Maryland where the ';best'; crabcakes are and you%26#39;ll get 20 answers lol. Or at least 19...

I also find the G%26amp;M crab cakes a bit ';wet';. Very good, just not what I prefer...I%26#39;d go with Faidley%26#39;s.

You may want to try Annapolis Seafood ( I do believe they ship). I live in Annapolis and when I don%26#39;t make my own, I always get their baseball sized lump cakes. My guests leave dreaming about them until their next visit.

Blue Point Crab House (carry out) and it%26#39;s website

    http://www.BluePoint2Go.com

have great Maryland style Jumbo lump crab cakes. Everyone loves them!

I love crabs but an not a big crab cake fan but I love the cakes at By the Docks on Eastern ave. Someone can correct me i%26#39;m wrong but I think they are owned by the same people who own G %26amp; M.

Where is the best crabcake place near BWI?

I love both G%26amp;M and Faidley%26#39;s crabcakes, but would vote for Faidley%26#39;s myself.

Near BWI, the best place for steamed crabs is Gunning%26#39;s, just off Route 100. I assume their crabcakes are good, but I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve had them.

Another good crab place not far from BWI is Scooter%26#39;s, on Route 1 in Elkridge.

I gotta go with G%26amp;M. Never had Faidley%26#39;s... I need to get on that!

    best directions from nepa?

If coming from Pa, Is it better to come in on rt 1 or on 113 an over the bridge md-90 at 62th street?

    best directions from nepa?

That would all depend on when you plan to travel and where you are staying or where you plan to visit in OC.

Both 113 and rt1 will take you into OC but traffic is your main concern.

Rt 1 runns you through Rehobeth, Dewey and Bethany into the northern end of OC at 145 street. Depending on the time of day and time of year along with weekend or weekday all helps to make your choice.

Rt. 113 heading south you can take either rt54 which takes you from Shellbeville (sp) into OC at 145 street.

then you hit 90 which drops you off at 62th midtown.

Last route into OC 50 which brings you into town at the southern end near the start of the Boardwalk and at the inlet.

If you are traveling in the offseason early morning or in the evening really not much difference. In season say on Friday afternoon then you might pick a different route in.

The main road north and south through OC (Coastal Highway) can in season get busy so if you enter town nearest your destination

then it might save you some time traveling.

Personally I come down 113 in on route 54 from Selyeville (sp)

through Fenwick and that puts me on the Coastal Highway at 145 street to head south to wherever I am staying that trip.

Have a safe trip and good luck.

I am staying at the golden sands (108th, i believe). The dates are Monday July 16th to Friday July 20th.

Waitress's name from the Sahara Motel Restaurant?

My husband and I cannot come up with this waitress%26#39;s first name? She has worked at OC for many years. She originally worked at the Surf and Sands Motel Restaurant and when that motel was torn down and Days Inn was built, she went to the Spinnaker Motel%26#39;s Restaurant and then finally to the Sahara Motel%26#39;s Restaurant (which is run by her original boss from The Surf and Sands-he%26#39;s a Grateful Dead fan and pictures are on display throughout the place) If anyone can come up with her name, we would so appreciate it! Thanks!

Waitress's name from the Sahara Motel Restaurant?

The Surf and Sands Motel was not torn down-the hotel still exists as the oceanfront building of the Days Inn, which two floors have been added to. Perhaps it is the restaurant that you are talking about. Additional (oceanblock) rooms were added when the Days Inn took over.

    Apartment location in Baltimore area

I am moving to Baltimore for three months this summer...July, August and Septmeber for a graduate school internship. I%26#39;m a 24 year old female and would be living by my self. Any suggestions on good locations for a person like me?

Safety is my main issue and because it just a short time, rent is negotiable; I just want a safe place to live. I do have a dog so I would need a place where I could walk her safely as well.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Apartment location in Baltimore area

I%26#39;d suggest the north part of Federal Hill

    Apartment location in Baltimore area

I also think you would like Federal Hill. The adjoining neighborhood of Locust Point will also be good. Where is your internship?

You might be able to find a summer sublet in Charles Village

which is adjacent to the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus.

A lot of dog owners take their dogs to the Wyman Park Dell

which is directly across from the Baltimore Museum of Art.

    Wjere is your intership?

    John

Wyman Park is an excellent place for dog walking and summer recreation. Without knowing what school you are attending I would recommend Roland Park and Mt Washington in terms of safety and green space. In the summer there are quite a few sublets available (JHU Homewood campus area). As a former employee of Hopkins Homewood (and viewing the daily security reports) I would not recommend Charles Village.

I work around Federal Hill now and I am not sure that I would recommend it in terms of security, either. You have to be buzzed in to the Papa Johns and you complete post office transactions through bulletproof glass (if that is any indication).

    Here are a few links:

    http://www.livebaltimore.com (good to research neighborhoods)

    http://www.jhu.edu/~security/ (JHU Homewood security report)

    http://141.157.54.34/bpdmaps/police.htm (Baltimore City crime map)

    http://baltimore.craigslist.org/sub/ (Baltimore sublets)

Blumagoo - I%26#39;m sorry, but you are really inaccurate and misinformed about Federal Hill. It is the city and like living in any city you have to be precautious. The post office comment was quite funny. If talking about the post office on Ostend Street the ';plastice windows'; have been there forever - and what about the express window that has no window at all! I have lived in Federal Hill for nine years and fortunately have had nothing but great experiences. Do I walk around by myself after 11 pm at night, no, but I wouldn%26#39;t anywhere. If Awaldrop is looking to live in the city then all of the areas mentioned are definitely some of the safest - Federal Hill, Canton, Fells Point, Locust Point, Mount Washington, Ruxton, Mount Vernon, etc. Awaldrop please if you want to talk off line let me know.

Of course it depends on where you are attending school, but I%26#39;d recommend Roland Park, a beautiful old neighborhood with a village feel. Grand old houses, some of which are divided up into apartments.

Lots of private schools there so usually lots of people around. Just a really lovely spot. Several colleges in close proximity as well.

It depends on where your internship is. I would recommend Mt. Vernon. It%26#39;s the next part of the city about to boom.

south baltimore (south of cross street market) is perfectly safe - and may be slightly cheaper than federal hill proper

  • Moving to Baltimore

Hi - we are moving to the Baltimore area, where I will be taking a job at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. We are looking for a nice suburb with a good school district, and a reasonable commute to work (30 minutes or less). Our price range is $500-$700K. We have been looking at Ellicott City, specifically the Centennial Lane area, but I%26#39;m somewhat concerned about the commute. Any thoughts? Is Route 40 a tough drive? Any other suggestions?

    Moving to Baltimore

    CCNewbie,

Ellicott City%26#39;s very nice, but is on the opposite side of town from JHH. Commutes in Baltimore are generally lousy...but not horrible. Off peak travel can be fairly easy...but there are very few good east/west routes in the city; it just wasn%26#39;t built that way.... There are a few classic slowdowns...and the harbor tunnels are part of that. I-95 is generally OK...but occasionally problematic from Ellicott City into town...US 40 isn%26#39;t terrible...but it%26#39;s a somewhat tedious drive from Ellicott City to East Baltimore...it%26#39;s mostly a commercial strip and crossing downtown can be a nightmare. Some combo of US1/I-95 is your best bet from EC...

The northeast side suburbs offer some pretty pleasant spots...Long Green, Carney, parts of Perry Hall..and a bit further out White Marsh...or Kingsville...Some of these are Baltimore County...some Harford County...I%26#39;m not very familiar with the school systems.

    Your budget is fairly plentiful...

    Moving to Baltimore

TA always pulls these relocation posts, so I better get my thoughts in while I can lol...

Howard County schools are considered among the best in the state, the system has a great reputation. And the ';Centennial District'; is considered among the best of the best.

You might be looking at the middle to top of your price range to get a decent home in that area.

But the commute to Baltimore will be longer than 30 minutes. In all honesty, the commute from ANYWHERE with a good public school system will be longer than 30 minutes in the Baltimore area.

I lived in Howard County for almost 20 years (graduated from High School there). I currently live in Laurel, MD which is about 15 minutes south of Columbia and I commute into Baltimore every day.

The Howard County School system is excellent, especially the Centennial Lane area. Great choice!

The 30 minute commute to Baltimore is not bad at all. I take the Baltimore/Washington Parkway up every day without any trouble. Several of my co-workers live in Ellicot City and take Route 40 with no complaints.

Most of the traffic is acutally headed south towards DC so consider yourself lucky that you will be commuting into Baltimore. If you were to drive into DC from Howard County it would be AT LEAST an hour commute!!!

Hi. I teach at the Homewood campus. I%26#39;d check out Towson, a short commute, good schools and a variety of very nice houses. It%26#39;s about 25 minutes to downtown during rush hour. You can also take the light rail to the hospital from Towson and avoid the drive.

If you do move to Howard county, try to avoid route 40. It%26#39;s awful.

Better to take 29 to 695.

    For a bit more upscale neighborhood, Ruxton is beautiful and ';next door to Towson';

    Best of luck.

    Phyllis

or, right next door to ruxton is riderwood...quite nice also, and convenient to everything!

The Best county school system in Maryland is probably Montgomery County. But that is about 45-1hour away.

Baltimore City schools are the worst in the state probably. Baltimore County schools I don%26#39;t know much about.

Here are some cities that are nice to live in. And with the price range on house, you could move to any of them.

    -Ellicott City

    -Towson

    -Bel Air

    -Columbia

Howard County, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County are all within 30 minutes of Baltimore.

    ';The Best county school system in Maryland is probably Montgomery County. But that is about 45-1hour away. ';

Certainly some parts of Montgomery County feed into some excellent schools. But overall Howard would be regarded as having the top school system in Maryland. And I say that as a proud graduate of Prince Georges County Public Schools lol.

I lived in Ellcott City for 5 years and it%26#39;s a pretty nice area. I had no problems commuting in to both D.C. and Baltimore. Route 40 is a good alternative path to take into downtown when the beltway is backed up, but Hopkins may be a bit further than I would commute. I would think that your commute is likely to be more like 45 minutes.

For that price range, you can find good houses in various parts of Columbia, which also has very good schools. As you%26#39;ve seen, others have recommended some fine areas outside Howard County that are also worth considering. Good luck!

I lived in Ellicott City and it is great area. Very family friendly. If you want an area with more land then I would suggest Hunt Valley, Monkton or the Hereford Zone. They will all be about the same commuting distance time appox 30 minutes. Towson is closer. Ruxton will be at the top of your price range.

you may wish to consider harford county. Bel Air is lovely - one of the fastest growings area in the country -still a reasonable commute, since you are only going to hopkins and not downtown. and your housing $$$ goes farther there. schools are excellent as well.

  • Looking for a Federal Hill rental

My husband, son and I are looking for an apartment rental in Federal Hill. We booked one rented by bbonline a few years ago, but it%26#39;s no longer listed. It%26#39;s tough to find a place that accepts children -- bbonline%26#39;s other apts. don%26#39;t take them. I%26#39;ve tried vrbo and craiglist with no luck. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks.

Looking for a Federal Hill rental

How long are you looking to rent for and for what time period? It is hard to find rentals for a week or even a month. Let me know and I can ask around and keep my eye out for you.

Looking for a Federal Hill rental

We might have an even harder time -- we%26#39;re looking at only four nights in April 2007, our son%26#39;s spring break. We want to spend four nights in Baltimore, walking distance to Inner Harbor, then head on up to Aberdeen for a three-day Cal Ripken baseball camp. We loved our last FH rental -- walk to Cross Street Market, make our own dinners, play at the park. I even took a cooking class at the Cook%26#39;s Table. But I guess if you live there, you know all this! Thanks for your offer. I do have some time.

I believe there is a place off of pratt or lombard street that rents suites that definitely accepts children.....short cab ride or walk up to federal hill..........

Thanks for the info. I%26#39;ll contact the visitors bureau to see whether it%26#39;s something they know about.

not sure what place is not letting you rent b/c you have children. That%26#39;s absolutely illegal.

    Washington DC

Can you please tell me if this is the correct forum for questions on Washington DC (on the East Coast!)

I submitted two queries today but sent them to Washington which appears to be on the West Coast according to the helpful replies I received. I haven%26#39;t been to the USA before and didn%26#39;t realize there were more than one Washington in the USA!!!

    Washington DC

Use the Washington DC forum within the District of Columbia. But I%26#39;d encourage you to browse the forum first before reposting, the basic questions you%26#39;re asking are frequently asked in that forum.

    Washington DC

Your posts on the Washington (State) board say you ';won%26#39;t be venturing out at night?'; Why? Seems a shame to come all the way from New Zealand to stay in a hotel room.

    Golden Sands

Is there pizza shop below the golden sands? or is it just ice cream and a grill?

    Golden Sands

Yes there is a pizza shop / deli below the sands. They also serve fruit and sandwiches.

    Golden Sands

    Atlantis on 103rd Street

Has anyone stayed here before? We stayed at the Sea Watch last year and enjoyed it, but the price for our condo is apparently going up $500 for the same week next year! Please let me know if you have any thoughts (positive or negative) on the Atlantis.

    Atlantis on 103rd Street

Can you tell me more about your Sea Watch experience? Was there ample %26amp; extra parking to buy?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Atlantis on 103rd Street

The Seawatch itself was great. I did a Trip Report on it. As for parking, there was certainly ample parking for one car. I dont recall whether they allowed you to have more than one car there or not.

    Rate increase already!

My husband and I love OC Maryland. We only live about an hour away so we go as often as possible. We mostly try to go in the fall and winter months when rates are lower. I called Holiday Inn on 17th street and they told me the cheapest room was $189.00 per night. I said I can%26#39;t believe that in February. The temperatures have been in the teens, most of the stores and resturants are closed. There was no one the boards. My advice is if you like to get away as much as we do you better start now because as soon as peek season starts you won%26#39;t be able to afford to go.

    Rate increase already!

Sounds like you%26#39;re getting the rack rate, I wouldn%26#39;t cause a panic and say this is a trend (although it wouldn%26#39;t be surprising if rates are up a few dollars over last year due to natural inflation).

I%26#39;m finding rates of $135 (AAA) there for the weekend, $60 during the week on the HI website.

    Rate increase already!

Also remember there are special events in town almost every weekend, which brings lots of people into town.

  • Baltimore hotels which of these to choose from

We are looking to visit Baltimore this summer for a 3nt stay and are trying to figure out which hotel to stay in. We are a family of 4

So far we are considering the following locations

    Marriott Baltimore Waterfront

    Hyatt (most expensive)

    Sheraton Baltimore City

    Sheraton Inner Harbour

Holiday Inn Inner Harbour (least expensive)

Can anyone shed some light on which would be best to stay in based on location, upkeep of rooms, etc Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Baltimore hotels which of these to choose from

Have you checked the reviews for these properties here on TA?

(If you do a search use ';harbor'; instead of ';harbour'; or you might end up in England lol)

    My opinions:

Marriott Waterfront: Easily the newest and probably ';snazziest'; of the properties you%26#39;re looking at. But slightly further from many of the Inner Harbor attractions. If the rate is good I%26#39;d grab it, it%26#39;s a nice place.

Sheraton Baltimore City: Used to be a Whyndham, before that an Omni, before that a Hilton...and always considered less than stellar under any name. Unless Sheraton has done a major rehab, I%26#39;d skip it. Also probably the least convenient of the places on your list.

Hyatt and Sheraton Inner Harbor: Location, location, location. Can%26#39;t beat it. Close to the waterfront, walking distance to Camden Yards. But I know nothing of the rooms.

Holiday Inn: Probably a reason why this is the cheapest. Across the street from the firehouse. Tied with the Sheraton for being the least convenient, as you have to walk several blocks to get to the Inner Harbor area. I was in their room about a year ago, the rooms were basic and what you would expect from a HI.

Baltimore hotels which of these to choose from

    FYI -

I%26#39;m a fairly frequent user of Hotwire and the Hyatt comes up on that website rather regularly. If you%26#39;d like some assistance in identifying it on Hotwire, give me your anticipated dates of stay and I%26#39;m happy to see if ot comes up at this point in time. Just remember with Hotwire that there are no refunds - You pay when you book and that%26#39;s it.

Another option that I like when staying in Charm City is the Renaissance Harborplace. You cannot beat the location and if you get a deal that includes breakfast, it%26#39;s a very nice place to stay right on the Inner Harbor.

    Suzanne

mccarthys5 - thank you for the offer

We are looking to go July 26 for 3 nights

I will check on the Renaissance too, thanks

Unfotunately the Renaissance is not coming up as available on the dates I am looking for, thanks for the suggestion

I checked Hotwire for your dates and nothing of any great value is coming up - you may want to wait a tad bit longer to see if some hotels release summer specials.

    Suzanne

July 27 starts a series of Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees. (hiss...) Anyway, that will bring quite a few folks to town, and it might be why some of the rates are up, even this far in advance.

July 26 the O%26#39;s are playing Tampa Bay, I%26#39;m thinking that will draw considerably less :)

Agree with IrishFan. You might also check out a brand new hotel- only opened a few weeks ago, The Hampton Inn on the corner of Greene St and Washington Blvd. It is directly across the street from Oriole Park. It%26#39;s a smaller boutique hotel but it looks very nice and even tjough it it 2 blocks from the Inner Harbour, it is in a really good location.

    marriott waterfront, no question.

The sheraton inner harbor is an older one, and somewhatrundown. the sheraton b%26#39;more city isn%26#39;t anywhere I%26#39;d want to venture out on my own after dark. The hyatt is less convenient in terms of location (not by much) though nice. I just don%26#39;t like holiday inn hotels(personal preference)

Marriott Waterfront is by far the nicest, a bit of a walk to the Harbor...but a nice walk around the waterfront. The Holiday Inn is not nice at all.

There are 2 Hampton Inns, the new one at Camden Yards and one on Redwwod Street. They both look nice and they are both in good locations.

The Hyatt has been completely renovated but IMO the Mariott is still a better property.

    Further to Garrison Lane? Baltimore

I have discovered that there was a ';Graubner%26#39;s Restaurant,'; Garrison Lane at Baltimore. Would anyone from the locality have any idea where Garrison Lane might have been? Garrison Lane existed in 1910.

Want to visit a relatives birthplace in the summer and it%26#39;s on her birth certificate as place of birth. If you can%26#39;t help yourself any aid pointing me in direction of someone who can would be appreciated.

Possible Garrison Lane joined Frederick Avenue?

Also found reference to ';vacant plots'; on North side of Lombard St between Catherine Street and Garrison Lane?

    Sorry, I hit send to soon..I know that doesn%26#39;t answer your question but the note on the photo states it is at ';鈥?Graubner%26#39;s Restaurant, Garrison Lane at Baltimore St.';

So apparently Garrsison Lane was quite separate from Garrison Boulevard, which to my knowledge doesn%26#39;t intersect nearly with Baltimore Street further to the south.

I have someone at the Pratt Library who%26#39;s checking the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps of 1914 to get you answer as to the current location of #10. It is in the general vicinity of Gwynns Falls.

Thanks to both of you for your help so far.

Look forward to any further news Tubman!

I have a suspicion that Garrison Lane was in the area of what is now Warwick Avenue.

    I have discovered also that the The New Red Line Cable of the City Passenger Railway Company first ran from this area. ';The first car started out from the Western terminus corner of Garrison Lane and Baltimore Street';

    Thanks again, Ian

    Okay, here%26#39;s your answer:

The good news: The old Garrison Lane is the current Franklintown Road, and #10 is in the first block near the intersection with Baltimore Street. Depending on whether you%26#39;re looking for #10 North or South Franklintown, it would be just on either side of Baltimore Street (the city%26#39;s N/S dividing line), a stone%26#39;s throw from Graubner%26#39;s. This comes from the good folks at the Pratt Library.

And the not so good news, from current state property records: #10 no longer exists, North or South. Judging from the property records and satellite imagery of the area, if I had to guess I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s South (There are no single or double-digits on the north side, and the even side of the street looks too narrow to have held houses). But #12 South is there, I think you can feel confident to claim the space next to it as your hallowed ground. FYI, The church on the corner (#2) was built in 1954, the commercial property (#6) was built in 1920, which is probably when #10 went to property heaven

    Have a safe trip!

    Tubman,

    You are an absolute star!

We are extremely grateful for the work you put in to find this out for us.

    Thanks again!

Need help with hotel suggestions in Chevy Chase area

    Hi All,

I%26#39;m not sure if this is this the right forum, but we

have sad news and need to fly into Maryland for a funeral for our dear Uncle who was as a second father to many of us.

We need some recommendations for hotels in the Chevy Chase area. We are a rather semi-large group fliying in from all over the country who prefers reasonable rates of course. We%26#39;ll be there for about three days, so we plan to rent a couple of cars and perhpas take a sanity day downtown to tour the lovely city.

Any suggestions for a decent clean hotel would be very

    much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Pentopaper

Need help with hotel suggestions in Chevy Chase area

We are sorry for your loss.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites Chevy Chase Pavillion. This is actually in Friendship Heights. It is located near the metro stop. The rooms are suites, which may help with group arrangements.

It is a nice hotel, and with the metro you have easy access into DC.

Need help with hotel suggestions in Chevy Chase area

This sounds like a lovely suggestion--thanks so much for the

    quick reply!

Oddly enough, I used to live in Maryland--was born and raised there.

But I%26#39;ve been out here in California for so long that I really don%26#39;t have any sense about hotels there. Indeed, when I would visit in the past, we would just stay with my Dad in Silver Spring. But he passed three years ago. And now this is his brother. It%26#39;s all a bit much, but we%26#39;ll

    get through.

If I can ever be of help for folks heading this way to Southern California, let me know!

    Kind Regards,

    Pentopaper

Recommended condo's or suites on or near boardwalk

We%26#39;ve been to OC several times and have stayed in a lovely hotel (King Charles). Our children are getting older and would like to bring friends or at least have more room. Any suggesitons for a condo or suite on or near the boardwalk?

Recommended condo's or suites on or near boardwalk

We are planning our first trip to OC. Would you recommend staying on the Boardwalk or farther away?

Recommended condo's or suites on or near boardwalk

Before we might offer some advice you will have to provide some more information.

When do you plan to visit? Month??? Weekday or weekend???

How many in your group or family?

    What ages?

What amount do you plan to pay per night for a room? Ballpark..

What activities do you enjoy???? Boardwalk? Beach? Noise? Quiet? Food? Entertainment? Nightlife?Tourist attractions?

Ocean City is a rather large area from which to decide where you want to stay the area runs from the inlet to 144th street (7-8 miles) with places to stay throughout the area. The Boardwalk runs from the inlet the southern most end to 26th street the southern end being the most active with the most noise. Also in some cases with the highest prices.

In general to stay on the Boardwalk will cost you more money. But that is something you have to weigh in your planning your trip.

Almost any area is a short trip to and from the Boardwalk depending on the time of your trip to OC.

Please provide us with a little more information and I am sure some might give you some advice.

We are coming at the end of August. There will be 8 in our party- 4 adults and 4 children. We will be driving a BIG van. We would like to stay where we can enjoy the beach and we want to visit the Boardwalk. I am concerned about parking if we don%26#39;t stay right in that area. Would it be a lot of trouble to stay in a condo and then drive to the Boardwalk area for the fun to be had there?

How far north does the boardwalk go? Are there any nice hotels just above the end?

The Boardwalk runs from the inlet ( The southern most end of OC) up along the oceanfront till 26th street.

You have several motels and hotels located at the northern end all depends on what you are looking for as far as accomodations.

You have the Dunes Manor on 28th probably the nicest place to stay in that area but the most costly.

You also have the Dunes Motel owned by the same group.

You have the Rodeway but it is reccomended you stay at the oceanfront building versus the building located off the beach.

There is a tram that runs the length of the Boardwalk and for a few dollars each way you could ride down to the southern end of the Boardwalk whcih is much busier then the northern end.

Another place you might look into is the Grand Hotel also located oceanfront towards the northern end of the Boardwalk.

When are you planning to travel?

    How many in your group?

    What ages ????

    First trip to OC???

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

I was going to post with basically the same question.

This will be the first time I am visiting OC. I will be travelling with my daughter and her friend (age 13), and my son and his friend (age 15).

I am also looking to stay in a condo with a least 2 bedrooms.

There are so many rental agencies, and condos available that I%26#39;m a little overwhelmed and need some direction.

Sorry, forgot one important detail--I plan on travelling in mid-July--high season.

    http://www.atbeach.com/rental.html

This site lists many of the relators handling rentals in OC.

Coldwell Banker is one of the biggest if not the biggest and most well know.

You can search online for locations and prices on their site and others.

The southern portion of the area is most busy in the time you are planning to travel.

Down near the inlet at the southern end of the Boardwalk it will be busy all day and into the night with crowds and noise.

If you stay in midtown area it will quiet down a little but you will have to make a short trip to get down to the Boardwalk.

You could walk, take the tram whcih runs up and down the Boardwalk or visit the beach near where you are staying.

I would suggest you run a search through one or more of the listed sites for the time you wish to travel and check out the prices and availibility and then perhaps come back her and ask about location and accomodations perehaps someone has stayed where you are looking.

Good luck. In fact no matter where you stay the area is small enough to get around and perhaps you can plan where to stay on trip #2 by deciding what areas interest you and what attactions you would like to be near in the future.

This site might provide you with some information and ideas for your visit.

  • moving to frostburg

We are planning a move to the area, do you guys get a lot of snow,

    is this a quiet town.

    are you friendly

i guess i will say we are from the south where southern hospitality is awesome, what about you,

we dont like big city type places

any suggestions on a town to move to we want lots lots and lots of snow.

    moving to frostburg

I am not from Frostburg but I have visited there several times.

Frostburg is a small, quiet college town in the mountains of Western Maryland. While nothing can quite compete with Southern Hospitality, the folks in Frostburg are very friendly.

As for snow, be careful what you ask for because you may receive it. :) There is no shortage of snow in the Frostburg area.

    moving to frostburg

Yep. Frostburg gets plenty of snow. Even when other parts of MD don%26#39;t Frostburg will.

As stated before it is a very quiet town (college town)

I don%26#39;t know about southern hospitality but it%26#39;s somewhat close. I know what southern hospitality is and it%26#39;s not exactly that.

Well thank you for your insight, and if anyone has any other info on the area let me know.

    thanks. jannell

I have friends that live there and I have been many times.

Frostburg is a great place to live if you like outdoor activities such as skiing, hunting, hiking, fishing, kayaking, etc. You are close to ski resorts in PA and WVa, as well as Maryland%26#39;s Wisp. As the previous posts have said, Frostburg gets a lot snow--lake effect from the Great Lakes, Alberta Clippers and large storms coming up from the south hitting the cold air coming from the northwest. And it stays cold enough to stick around for quite awhile before it melts.

Also, at one time, Frostburg had more bars and more churches per person than any other town in the U.S. Go figure. I guess folks go to church to ask for forgiveness for all the things they do when they are at the bars.

well this sounds like a great place to live what about little kids is it good enough to raise a family in, we love the outdoors and snow. how is the schools, i will be going to the university, but element schools?

  • Phillips Harborplace - Reservations required?

Can anyone answer this for me? I%26#39;m doing a project for my college English class where I have to make a travel brochuer for Inner Harbor. I%26#39;m including info about Phillips, but it doesn%26#39;t say on their web site about this... Although there is a link for making reservations... Anyway, if anyone can help, I appreciate it! Thanks!

    Phillips Harborplace - Reservations required?

That Phillips location is primarily an all you can eat seafood buffet. I have always seen lines out the door so I expect these people are just walking in...thus no reservations required. Either way, if you have been on their site, shoot them off an email and ask. All of the restaurants on the inner harbor are tourist driven, so I suspect there are plenty that have tables for walk-ins.

    Phillips Harborplace - Reservations required?

There are 3 Phillips eateries @ Harbor Place. One is an all you can eat seafood buffet- no reservations needed, one is a small ';fastfood'; style counter and the other is the restaurant where depending on when you go you would need reservations

Thanks 6tareg and anga. I was aware of the three different parts of Phillips in the Harborplace. I seem to recall that one of them is more formal and may possibly have a dress code...? And that is the one to which I was referring when I asked about the reservations.

All of the Phillips locations are casual, none would have a dress code.

    Capri Condos on 111th ST

I have been researching various condos with 2 or 3 bedrooms and was wondering if anyone has stayed at Capri?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Capri Condos on 111th ST

Speaking to the common elements of the Capri, the indoor pool is very nice and the building itself is well-maintained.

But so much depends on the specific unit you%26#39;ll be renting. They%26#39;re each individually owned and the furnishings and amenities reflect that owner%26#39;s taste and priorities, i.e. it%26#39;s anybody%26#39;s guess what you%26#39;ll find behind the unit door in a building that%26#39;s ~30 years old. Ask for photos, bedding configuration and a complete list of amenities for any unit you%26#39;re considering. You don%26#39;t want to show up with a bunch of rainy-day DVDs for the kids only to find out they%26#39;ve got a VHS player.

    The old Gateway

Anyone know if they%26#39;ve completed the contruction at the old Gateway site across from Seacrets? Is it going to be a hotel, condos?? The name?

    The old Gateway

It is going to be a luxury condominium building called the Gateway Grand. It looks like it will be a very nice place when it is completed but it costs a fortune to buy a unit there-prices start at 1 million dollars! Please feel free to visit the Gateway Grand%26#39;s website at www.thegatewaygrand.com/index.html for more info and to view the different layouts available.

    Eden Roc Motel?

Has anyone ever stayed here? I%26#39;d really appreciate any input? Thanks!

    Eden Roc Motel?

Haven%26#39;t stayed there but have relatives that stayed there a few years ago. The motel consists of two buildings-an older oceanblock motel and a more modern oceanfront building with 12 efficiency units (half are oceanfront while the other 6 are non-oceanfront). My relatives stayed in the oceanblock building and said that the room was so dirty that they didn%26#39;t let their kids crawl around on the carpet. They have not stayed at that Eden Roc since that time and wouldn%26#39;t recommend the oceanblock building at all. Last year they stayed at the Dunes Motel and really liked it. Another place that I would highly recommend is the Ocean Mecca, a family-owned and operated motel located around 23rd Street. It is an older motel that has been very well maintained and always seems to be kept squeaky clean. The only negative thing about the place is that only 4 of the rooms are oceanfront. This is one of the few older family owned/operated motels left on the boardwalk that is clean, well-kept, and affordable. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    Eden Roc Motel?

The Eden Roc is indeed a relic of early 1950%26#39;s motel design, right down to the color scheme (aquamarine), but is certainly not a pristine example. I would suspect by the exterior that the interior would not updated. I%26#39;d also suspect it won%26#39;t be there much longer.

I stayed at the Eden Roc about 7 years ago. I reserved an ocean front efficiency, but had to stay in the ocean block building one night our first day there. The ocean block room was terrible. It was small, old, dirty, and faced the back of the other building. I was so glad we only had to spend one night there. The ocean front efficiency was much better. It had a small balcony facing the boardwalk and ocean. It could use some updating too, but was okay for us. We did enjoy our stay there. Eden Roc is ok, but only the ocean front efficiencies. Definitely do not stay in the other building.

  • Hotel in MD or DC

We plan to fly to MD on early of June. We plan to visit DC for a few days. We have several questions to ask:

#1: Where is the best place to stay (from the price side) in DC or MD?

#2: If in MD..then which area or city closed to DC (the safe area please since we bring our toddler)?

#3: Is Baltimore closed to DC? Which side of Baltimore is safe?

#4: Also if in MD, how%26#39;s the transportation to DC?

#5: Is there a good and safe public transportation from MD to DC?

    Thanks.

    Hotel in MD or DC

#1 - Very hard to answer, there is no one ';best place to stay';. You might have better luck checking the Washington DC forum and looking at the hotel reviews there.

#2 - There are few if any hotels in the close-in Maryland suburbs that I would recommend for Dc visits. Maybe a couple in Silver Spring or Greenbelt, but you%26#39;d spend a fair amount of time and hassle commuting in each day to DC.

#3 - Baltimore is about 40 miles away from Washington. I try not to pick sides. :)

#4 - You can take Metro (subway) into town, but see #2.

    #5 - See # 4.

    Hotel in MD or DC

If your visting Balt and DC, you might want to stay in Laurel, Maryland. Its right in the middle of both cities with easy access to both. Take the Marc train into Baltimore. Just drive south to College Park or Greenbelt and take the Metro (subway) into DC.

You%26#39;d just want to stay at a good hotel, Holiday Inn or something. Laurel is home to Laurel Park Racecourse and it has some cheap hotels for race fans.

    IAD to Rockville, Md...

What is the best way/route to take from IAD into downtown Rockville using Public Transportation (bus, etc.?)

    IAD to Rockville, Md...

That%26#39;s going to be a fairly lengthy trip...

You would take the airport bus from Dulles to the West Falls Church Metro (subway) station. From there it%26#39;s about an hour to the Rockville station, using the Orange line from West Falls Church and transferring at Metro Center to the Red line and taking it in the direction of Shady Grove to Rockville.

    IAD to Rockville, Md...

    Thank you, good to know.

  • Looking for April getaway on Kent Island or Princess Anne...

We%26#39;re a 40-something couple getting married April 29th in DC. Our real honeymoon will be in November, but we want to get away for a 3 night getaway Sat-Mon on the Eastern Shore after our wedding. We%26#39;re targeting Kent Island and the surrounding areas.

Ideally we%26#39;re looking for non-hotel lodging, (maybe a vacation rental) that has a jacuzzi, kitchen (or at least a small fridge) and is clean %26amp; quiet.

We%26#39;re both into birding and hiking, so being near the water, marsh or woods is desired.

Before I contact some real estate agents about vacation rentals in the area, I wanted to see if anyone could recommend anything.

    Thanks!

Looking for April getaway on Kent Island or Princess Anne...

It%26#39;s a little further than you%26#39;ve mentioned--about an hour after crossing the bridge--but Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge would be the perfect destination for birding and hiking upon which to base the rest of your getaway.

    http://www.fws.gov/blackwater/

    http://www.friendsofblackwater.org/

If you decide on Blackwater as your destination, your lodging focus then becomes Cambridge, about 12 miles away--you may want to re-post your lodging inquiry in that forum. Lots of lodging options there ranging from B%26amp;Bs to the upscale Hyatt. We%26#39;ve stayed at the Cambridge House B%26amp;B and it was excellent...you don%26#39;t have your own kitchen, but they%26#39;ve got a great hot tub in the backyard.

    Congratulations!

Looking for April getaway on Kent Island or Princess Anne...

Thanks for the Blackwater NWR suggestion. We plan to make it a day trip from Kent Island during our getaway.

Anyone else with Kent Island suggestions?

    Thanks again!

I came across this place when I was looking for vacation rentals near the Chesapeake Bay. It looks great, I have never stayed here and don%26#39;t know what your budget is, but it might be worth your while to check it out. Have a hot tub and a whirlpool tub......great views, comes with bikes (near the Kent Island/Cross Island Bike Trail) and a canoe, etc. I am sure that they could provide references for you. They also have a cottage that is smaller, they might consider renting you the cottage since it is your honeymoon. Anyway, it can%26#39;t hurt to give them a call.

    http://www.baydreamshome.com/

Good Luck and Congrats on your upcoming Wedding!

I don%26#39;t have any specific lodging in mind, but I recommend the Chestertown area. It is a lovely, historic waterfront town that caters to visitors, and it is very near the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge., which is an unspoiled marshland island with great bird watching opportunities.

    How about a nice B%26amp;B?

The Kent Manor Inn is lovely and the food is wonderful!

    www.kentmanor.com

Historic Kent Manor Inn and Restaurant......this is the ONLY place to stay. The Inn is not a B%26amp;B as another review mentioned, but rather a 24 room hotel and each room room has it%26#39;s own private bath. They have a full service restaurant as well. It sits on a 200+ acre farm on a river off of the Chesapeake Bay. I bet you would get to see lots of birds. The people who work there are so friendly and willing to do anything you ask.

    Coconut Malorie Hotel Opinions, Please!!!

Hello Everyone, I%26#39;ve been reading many mixed reviews about this hotel and am hoping some of you can offer some advise/opinions. We%26#39;ve never vacationed in Ocean City before and are completely unfamilair with the area. RCI just let us know that a room has become available and we don%26#39;t know if we should take it or not. Also, we%26#39;ll be traveling with a 2 yr old and a 10 yr old. THANKS!!!

    Coconut Malorie Hotel Opinions, Please!!!

Don%26#39;t know too much about Coconut Malorie, so can%26#39;t help you there. If you let me know how much you want to spend, what location at O.C. you would like to stay. (boardwalk, inlet, bayside) Alos do you want a hotel or condo, a few and myself can give suggestion from there. Also what time of the year are you going?

    Coconut Malorie Hotel Opinions, Please!!!

I stayed at the Coconut Malorie several years ago and was not impressed for the money spent.

The location is nice along the bay and midtown but in my opinion the place has seen better days.

Over the past few years they have been selling units for timeshare and private ownership rather then hotel establishment.

Some of the local hotels, motels have taken to making favorable posts to promote their establishments so sometimes you have to consider the source of these glowing reviews when they somehow conflict with the general feelings of others.

';Best resort on the eastern shore'; Hardly....

As for your children I would think they would enjoy a visit to OC with the area attractions and beach this would entertain most 10 %26amp; 2 year olds.

As for the Coconut Malorie I would think you could do better in the way of accomodations.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip...........

Anyone stayed at the Ocean Voyager recently?

The reviews are not that great but I%26#39;m wondering if the location makes up for not having alot of amenities? Is it close to anything worth walking to? Thanks in advance.

Anyone stayed at the Ocean Voyager recently?

    jgr,

A lot depends on what appeals to you, you may need to provide more information. For example, Ocean Voyager is a stone%26#39;s throw from Jolly Roger Amusement Park. For some, that%26#39;s something worth walking to. If amusement parks don%26#39;t appeal to you, it won%26#39;t mean anything to you. Same thing if you%26#39;re with kids who are McDonald%26#39;s junkies, it%26#39;s also right there.

Another example: We stay within walking distance to a large park with a lot of greenspace (Northside) that our kids love, so it%26#39;s a great location...for us. There%26#39;s nothing else like it in the city. But if our kids were total Boardwalk junkies and had to be there every day, that%26#39;s eight miles away and where we%26#39;re staying becomes a ';terrible'; location.

Ocean City is now so commercially developed that--no matter where you stay in the city (along Coastal Highway, Baltimore or Philadelphia Avenue)--you%26#39;re easy walking distance to the core things you might need and general interest activities...the beach, a grocery store, miniature golf course, place to buy beer/wine, beach supply shop, pizza/sub shop, a selection of decent restaurants. The area around Ocean Voyager is no exception.

I guess what I%26#39;m saying is to judge the hotel itself on its own merits http://tinyurl.com/hyada. Without more specific input from you on your interests, there%26#39;s nothing that would make this particular location better or worse than any other.

Anyone stayed at the Ocean Voyager recently?

All I can say is check the room before you pay...it was probably one of the worst places I%26#39;ve seen. I am not that picky but I couldn%26#39;t stay there. The smell hits you as soon as you open the door.. There are so many other options in OC that are reasonable and much better than Ocean Voyager. Check out the Empress or the Sahara--they are both in a great locatiion and reasonable and especially the Empress is CLEAN. We stayed there the first week of August.

OV at Ocean City. --stayed during bike week last fall. The room was nasty (really). The bathroom was really clean. (really!) . Bring the Lysol, room deodorizers and your own bedding, BUT, we had the best time!

The other patrons and the hotel staff are great, and once you get past the smell and if you can get past that, you%26#39;ll have a great time. We are going back next year and already have reservations. The location is great and the little snack bar restaurant next door is the best! Necessity store right across the road. No need to take the car out at all. Just close your eyes and pretend you are back at high school beach week at the cheapest place near the beach. You%26#39;ll have a great time. But, bring the Lysol...

Built in the early 60%26#39;s as the Yankee Clipper.

You%26#39;d smell nasty too if you were that old.

  • Visiting Bethesda Naval Hospital and DC

A friend of my daughter%26#39;s has been brought back to Bethesda from Iraq and we want to combine a visit with him and some touring of Washington DC on Friday-Sunday in mid March. We would probably stay near the hospital so we could make several short visits over the weekend. What are the public transit options for getting into DC (cost, convenience, time)? Thanks!

Visiting Bethesda Naval Hospital and DC

Metrorail is your best option. From Grosvenor to Smithsonian station (a common tourist destination in town) is 30 minutes, plus waiting time. Cost $3.00 in rush hour, $2.35 in non-rush hour. Parking at Grosvenor is $4.00 during the week, free on weekends. (Medical Center station is closer to the hospital, but there is no Metrorail parking available.)

If you need a place to stay, the Bethesda Marriott is nice, typically has good weekend rates and is close to the hospital.

Visiting Bethesda Naval Hospital and DC

    Thank you tubman...

A metro tip - there is a day pass for the metro that can be used anytime other thanrush our. It costs $ 5 or $6 andcan be used all day long.

We have an injured soldier at the Naval Hospital too. My sister found a great air/hotel rate using hyatt.com. She is flying from Las Vegas Nevada the first week in April. For 2 people for 6 nights she got a great rate of $600/person.

when are the seniors visiting in june?

booked the new hilton the 3rd week in june(june 19-22).my family and i are very excited to stay in this new hotel. I was just wondering when do the seniors arrive for senior week? I realize that there probably won%26#39;t be alot of seniors staying here because of the steep price ($309+TAX/NIGHT). Just curious . Any info would help. Thanks

when are the seniors visiting in june?

The period between June 9-18 will likely be the peak time you%26#39;ll find recent graduates in O.C. between graduations and summer jobs for high school seniors. But you%26#39;ll certainly find plenty of residual senior activity before and after this timeframe.

The town is careful to avoid any sanctioning of ';Senior Week';--you won%26#39;t find it on any official calendar--but city services (read: police) are beefed up and landlords often have special rules in place (increased security deposits) for rentals throughout the month of June.

BTW, you might be surprised at just how many seniors can afford a $300 room (or how many seniors can cram into one).

when are the seniors visiting in june?

I%26#39;d say the major influx of ';June Bugs'; (as the locals like to refer to the high school seniors) is in the first two weeks of June. There will still be some stragglers in town during your visit, but it%26#39;s nothing to be too concerned about.

Also, with the lack of snow days most schools in the mid-Atlantic experienced this winter, I think most schools will be finished by early June and most seniors will be gone by the end of June.

Thank you for all your info. The reason I was concerned is because I have 2 small children, under the age of 5, and I didn%26#39;t want them to be exposed to crazy, loud, drunk seniors. I understand they%26#39;re celebrating their graduation and thats fine with me as long as my children aren%26#39;t exposed to it. Thanks again, hopefully it won%26#39;t be too nuts!

    sorry for laughing....

but ';seniors'; these days seems to refer to a person of, um, how can i say it...MY age?

and i can%26#39;t blame you for wanting to avoid a scene of hooting, drunken seniors LOL

FYI-That is the time period of fire/EMS week for the state of Maryland. You will see a huge amount of fire personell and firetrucks/ambulances. There is a huge parade for fire and EMS on the 21st, so your children might enjoy that, also.

    BTTT for boulas

I always go with my now 6 year old girl to Holiday Inn and Suites on the Boardwalk, never no problem with the seniors they are tightly watched in the Hilton and Holiday Inn if they stay there at all. I have seen seniors crying getting kicked out of the Holiday Inn because they had illegal booze.

    You will be fine

Having lived here for 10 years, I would say that the firemen cause at least as much (or more) drunken hoopla than the seniors!

    Drive to Philly

About how long of a car ride is Baltimore to Philly. We are landing at BWI and plan on driving to Philly to watch a baseball game on Friday night ( in July ) and then drive back to Baltimore to catch an Orioles game on Saturday.

    Drive to Philly

Friday afternoon/evening traffic is a killer with getaway traffic in the summer. Not to mention perennial traffic congestion along I-95 on both sides of the Md/Delaware border.

Under perfect conditions, it%26#39;s a little under 2 hours from the Harbor in Baltimore to the ballpark in Philly. But leave as early as possible; if you get there incredibly early, grab a bite to eat in South Philly.

Factoring in congestion and the need to park, I%26#39;d say you risk missing the first pitch of a 7:05 start if you leave Baltimore any later than 4.

    Drive to Philly

Incidentally, if you have an Illinois I-Pass, bring that along. It can be used on the area toll roads and will definitely speed up your trip.

We land in Baltimore at 10:50 am, from there we plan on just driving straight to Philly. Do you think by then we should be safe with traffic??? And thanks for the tip on the I-Pass, that will come to use for sure.

Figuring you get your luggage and car by 11:30, you%26#39;ll be in Philly by 2 with a little traffic at the Delaware border. So you need to figure out what to do once you get there with all that time to kill before the game.

You could probably squeeze in the Franklin Institute and a cheesesteak...but that%26#39;s better left for the Philly board.

I agree that you should head out right from the airport. I grew up in the Philly area and regularly make that drive to/from Baltimore. Plan on the state of Delaware being a parking lot, but you%26#39;ll get there in plenty of time for the first pitch if you head up early.

There%26#39;s a fun place to get a bite to eat before the game right in Citizen%26#39;s Bank Park...McFaddens....as you won%26#39;t find much in the way of restaurants/bars in the immediate stadium area.

I agree with the other posters that leaving BWI late morning/noon you will not encounter too much traffic, but invariably on a Friday in July you will most likely find traffic in Delaware - possibly at the DE/MD line (toll) or just pass there due to never ending construction. If it seems backed up at the MD/DE line you might want to try this short cut another member previously posted - simply take exit 109 in Maryland northbound for a few miles into Delaware, take a right onto Delaware 2/4, then another right onto DE 896 and you%26#39;ll pick up 95 again on the other side of the border/tollbooth. You%26#39;ll be way ahead of the traffic...not to mention $3 richer. Go Phillies!!!!!!!

In case you have never driven in the area before, you should be prepared for traffic congestion and rampant speeding. I just got back from the area -- flew into BWI and drove to Newark, Delaware, so my son could visit the University of Delaware. Virtually EVERYONE on I-95 was going 20 miles or more over the speed limit (I am not exaggerating), and not a highway patrolman in sight. I have driven in Boston and LA with no problem, but I-95 around Baltimore is by far the most dangerous stretch of highway I%26#39;ve ever had to drive.

I agree that you will have plenty of time, even if you hit major traffic. You can use I-895 N. in Md instead of I-95 to bypass the Fort McHenry Tunnel near Baltimore if traffic looks bad, and can also use I-495 N. to bypass Wilmington DE. You won%26#39;t have time to go to the Franklin Institute, but you could drive through the city to see some sights before going to the ballpark if you wish. The ballpark is right off of I-95, but venturing into the city to get back to it could be confusing. I think your best bet is to go straight to the ballpark and, as earlier mentioned, eat at McFadden%26#39;s, or if you feel adventuresome enough, look up a cheesesteak place in South Philly and go there for lunch and then just hop back on I-95 to get to the ballpark. Geno%26#39;s, Pat%26#39;s, and Tony Luke%26#39;s are all relatively close to I-95 %26amp; to the ballpark in South Philly. You can also get cheesesteaks at the ballpark but would have to wait until it opened. Look at some maps online to get a feel for the roads you%26#39;ll take, and you should be fine. Have a great trip. ... and Go Phillies! ;-)

I would add that there are state police- aplenty on that I-95 corridor in DE. Since they have no sales tax I think they generate cash with tickets and tolls. I drive to Philly about twice monthy. Even in the summer, if you hit the road before 1 or 2 you should be fine. The one problem with Citizens Bank Park is it is on the south side of Philly (great news for the drive from Baltimore) but it is in an area that is industrial and lumped with Lincoln Financial Field, Wachovia Center, and the Spectrum. It isn%26#39;t actually IN the city as in downtown (as Camden Yards in Baltimore). I agree with travelbug91... stay close to the park... and you can%26#39;t go wrong with travelbug91%26#39;s South Philly cuisine recommendations.

  • Just back from OC - food question/rant

Okay, I am a big fan of Ocean City but I have to ask - What is going on with the food? Every year it gets worse. Am I not going to the right places? This year we went on a quest for a good piece of pizza. No luck. We tried PIno%26#39;s (puffy, bland), Tony%26#39;s (flat, bland) and some other place on the boardwalk which might have been decent if it was fresh and not warmed over. My friends liked Lombardi%26#39;s - didn%26#39;t try it.

We went to Bagels N Buns and the muffins were stale with rotten fruit!

We%26#39;ve given up on the restaurants and will make our own meals or stick to the few good sub shops we%26#39;ve found over the years.

On the good side, we did find Tequila Mockingbird to be good this year. And of course, The Fractured Prune was yummy.

Why don%26#39;t more people write a short review on this website about where they%26#39;ve eaten - the good and the bad. I hate to waste good money on bad food at the beach!

Just back from OC - food question/rant

we just came back 2 days ago. I looked up best places to eat before we went and we had good food for most of our time there.

Anthony%26#39;s for subs was wonderful! Nicks ribs had great food. Halls for breakfast was okay, food was good but getting cold on the buffet. Fagers island for lunch was yummy, the fresh mozeralla w/ tomatoes was amazing! We also had a wonderful dinner at the Dunes manor. We always had large portions and leftovers for the next day. We did get some pizza from Pino%26#39;s and it was just ok. We heard Liquid Assets was good but never made it there. We had a seafood buffet at Phillips (lower end of highway) and it was very good, everything was fresh and hot.

I suggest to do a search on best places to eat and write a few down to check out while you are there next time.

Just back from OC - food question/rant

We also just got back from OC. JR%26#39;s Ribs were great, we took them back with us to eat at the condo. Old reliable Papa John%26#39;s Pizza was delivered and it was very hot and flaky crust. Fish Tales was great we eat outside under umbrellas with our feet in the sand by the Bay, great food. Harpoon Hannah%26#39;s was good also, service wasn%26#39;t too fast, but the food was good. This year we tried Bonfire instead of Phillips for a buffet, it was really better, wider selection and we didn%26#39;t feel like we were eating on top of each other, I still think all buffets are over priced though.

Food in OC seems to be expensive, they%26#39;ve got us vacationers. We normally eat breakfast and lunch in the condo and go out for dinner. Sometimes we order in when we are really tired.

    Hope this helps

For pizza next time try Mione%26#39;s in West Ocean City located in the White Marlin Outlets. Best pizza in the area.

Can%26#39;t find good food in Ocean City??? That I find hard to believe if you know where to look and are willing to open your wallet. First of all, if your not spending more than 8 to 12 per person for breakfast/lunch and 20 to 25 per person for dinner, then your food quality is going to be sporadic at best, down right horrible at worst. This is my opinion of course. Every restaurant is going to have the occassion good or bad day.

But here is a list of restaurants where I think you can always bet you are going to get what you pay for:

    Traditional pizza: Mione%26#39;s (West OC)

Brick oven pizza/Italian: Mancini%26#39;s (Fenwick Island), Carraba%26#39;s (West OC)

    Boardwalk: Shenanigan%26#39;s (4th St. oceanside)

Sunsets: Fager%26#39;s Island (60th St. bayside)

Authentic Italian: Ristorante Antipasti (31st St. bayside)

Mexican: Tequilla Mockingbird (130th St. bayside)

Waterfront dining: Seacrets (49th. St. bayside), Mackey%26#39;s (54th St. bayside), Castaway%26#39;s, (64th St. bayside), BJ%26#39;s on the Water (75th. St bayside), Sunset Grille (West Ocean City), Mickey Finn%26#39;s (West Ocean City), Harborside Bar %26amp; Grille (West Ocean City), Fish Tale%26#39;s (22nd St. bayside).

Seafood: Harrison%26#39;s Harbor Watch (at the inlet) Captain%26#39;s Galley II (West Ocean City), Crab Alley (West Ocean City), Harpoon Hanna%26#39;s (Fenwick Island).

Bar food: Buxy%26#39;s Salty Dog Saloon (28th St. bayside), Booty%26#39;s (27th St. bayside),

Subshops: Belly Buster%26#39;s (46th St. ocean side), Anthony%26#39;s (33rd St. oceanside), Tubby%26#39;s (59th St. ocean side), Cefaloni%26#39;s Italian Deli (138th St. bayside).

Intimate: Grove Market, (Bishopville, across Rt. 90 bridge on St. Martin%26#39;s Neck Road)

Romantic: Lighthouse Sound (Bishopville, across Rt. 90 bridge on St. Martin%26#39;s Neck Road)

Eccletic: Galaxy 66 (66th St. bayside), Liquid Assests (94th St. bayside)

That should give you a couple of places to try where I can almost guarantee you%26#39;ll get an excellent meal for your money the next time you are in Ocean City, MD.

    Honorable Mentions:

The Plantation House, (West Ocean City)

Greene Turtle West (West Ocean City, not the original one on 117th St.)

Dr. Unk%26#39;s (smoke-free in West Ocean City)

Best Wings: Smitty McGee%26#39;s (West Fenwick Island, DE)

Thanks for the recommendations. We%26#39;re going back in August and will try a few of those places!

    My parents just got back and said that the Gallery 2 in west OC was great for lunch, so great they went back for dinner the next night. all I heard was how good the food was there and '; Desserts by Rita were the best';

Im going in August also and can%26#39;t wait to try them out.

    Have a great time.

Thanks Mink 66, I%26#39;m gping to print out those suggestions and check some out next month.

I agree, We go to OC every summer. and it gets harder every year to find a nice restaurant,,and problem is, when you do complain, they do nothing...we hit the happy hour places and eat appetisers..then go back to the room and cook real food.!! Cheaper, and better tasting...

Best seafood buffet is the Clarion Horizon on 103rd. Fantastic, don%26#39;t miss it and go before 6pm for $23 buffet worth every penny for kids corner, fresh pasta to order, landlubber prime rib, ribs, juicy chicken and sides, salad bar and nice desserts with terrific coffee.

I had wondered about the ';prune'; place, will check it out next time. We do find eating out expensive and usually eat-in brk and lunch. I don%26#39;t want to break the bank, but I hate eating out and getting a bad meal or just an ok meal for big$$.

The Hobbit is charming and has an early bird, quiet place on 8st, bayside, upscale, good food, service. I don%26#39;t like Pappa John%26#39;s much and also didn%26#39;t have any pizza luck, so will check out your suggestions. Had absolutely terrific burger at Big Pecker%26#39;s. Problem for me is smoke, am asthmatic. If you sit on outer edges with the breeze or not too many people, it%26#39;s ok.

Funny, just had this conversation at work today. All in all I agree. I do have some favorites. Tequila Mockingbird, Bayside skillet. But for pizza you gotta head to DE. for Grotto%26#39;s. My previous favorite rest. has always been Harrison%26#39;s, went a few months ago and got my usual ';World famous Fetticuine alfredo'; they changed the recipe, now it%26#39;s awful, it tastes the same as everyone elses. So now I%26#39;m on a quest for a new favorite!

    St. Paddy's Day in OC......

.....wanting to go again this year....it is lots of fun with a big parade %26amp; outdoor live music %26amp; activities, and maybe the only day of the year you can legally walk around outdoors with a beer in your hand.

    Anybody else going?

    St. Paddy's Day in OC......

The only area you will ';legally'; get away with open containers during St. Patty%26#39;s day is in the area of the 45th St. Village where the parade ends and the Irish Festival begins. The Irish Festival serves beer, food, plays Irish music and usually has a few novelty stands set up.

  • Annapolis in March

    Hi,

My wife and I are planning a weekend in Annapolis March 9-11 2007. She will be 6 months pregnant, so all day walking tours are probably not the best idea. We%26#39;ll probably stay at a B%26amp;B State House Inn looks nice--any feedback or other suggestions?

Ani ideas on how to have a pregnancy friendly weekend in Annapolis in March?

    Thanks

    Annapolis in March

for the evenings, one thing i%26#39;d do is check the schedule at the rams head tavern. i looked....two of the nights you%26#39;ll be there are apparently unbooked at this point. ?

but there are other places to hear live music as well...49 west has jazz, and it%26#39;s a very very nice place.

this might sound really stupid, but during the day....if she%26#39;s never done it before...just drive over the chesapeake bay bridge. it%26#39;s pretty spectacular. a friend of mine from indiana did it for the first time a month ago %26amp; she was flabbergasted. and there ARE some towns on kent island that could have some nice shops to visit....i can%26#39;t swear to that, i%26#39;m always hell bent for leather to get to the beach when i drive that route.

    Annapolis in March

Check this site for reviews of the State House B%26amp;B. For the most part it gets very favorable reviews. I know where it is but have never stayed there. Great location and very close to everything....literally outside your door. As you get closer check www.whatsupannapolis.com. It is a monthly publication that contains everything that is going on but they have a web site too.

If you want to drive a less hectic and more scenic route, you can drive to Annapolis from Philly and go on the Eastern Shore, (Route 213 or 301). This way you will cross the Bay bridge (not pay the tolls) and enjoy a better ride than 95. Unless you go into towns like Chestertown, or Easton, there is not much shopping or activity at this time.

Why not book something at a day spa for your wife? There are a couple downtown, one is called Annapolis Day Spa and Salon. I would recommend making reservations for dinner when you come depending on the restaurants you wish to eat at. Some places don%26#39;t take walk ins so when they are booked they are booked. I could give recommendations if you like.

You will be right by the State House (obviously) and you can enter the building for free. It is quite interesting and there is a visitor%26#39;s section there that has brochures and information for the whole state.

Maybe if the weather is favorable they may offer boat excursions, but I don%26#39;t know how flexible the scheduling is for these companies. There are quite a few historic homes that you can tour if that interests you. There are usually places to sit while the guide talks so your wife would not have to be on her feet all the time.

The Naval Academy is also very interesting and has a huge visitors center that is also a mini museum. You just need your Driver%26#39;s Licenses to enter. Hope this helps.

I definitely agree with 6tareg about the drive from Philly to Annapolis ... skip 95 and go do the Eastern shore and over the Bay Bridge to Annapolis. If you stay on 301S, you will make good time. However, 213 is an interesting scenic route. I would especially suggest spending a couple hours in Chestertown.

The Bay Bridge is an interesting ride. However, do not try to go over it east bound at rush hour. There are usually back-ups on Route 50 through Annapolis prior to the Bridge.

Besides the waliking tours, there is also a bus/trolley tour. They do a nice job and might point out a couple of places that you want to explore further. (I took some guest on the bus tour after I lived here 5+ years and still found it informative). They usally leave from the Vistitors Center but it is under a major renovation. So you might want to call the Vistors Center and see where the tour leaves from now.

I would suggest visting some of the historic homes. The Harwood Hammond House and Paca House are interesting.

Be sure to make reservations for dinner a week in advance. Harry Brownes in nice and close to your B%26amp;B.

We%26#39;ve booked at the State House B%26amp;B ( I%26#39;ll review it adter we get back). Thanks for the advice on taking the Eastern Shore route. I%26#39;ve driven on 95 too many times (sister in law went to William and Mary, and her sister liked to go visit. Often.)

Friday, we plan on driving down, stopping en route if there is anything we can%26#39;t resist. I%26#39;ll check out Kent Island, thanks for the tip.

After we check in, I think some shopping, browsing is in order.

She and I like blues, so the group playing the Ram Tavern that night looks good. Can someone explain the seating to me. I looked at their website, and it looks like the band plays ina corner of the restaurant. Since we are just a party of 2 (well, 2.66 at that point), would we need to share a table with another couple? Not too wild about that.

Saturday--The State house and the Academy, then it depends on how long she wants to spend on her feet. The bus tour someone mentioned sounds good. I%26#39;ll check into that. Dinner--somewhere nice (not coat and tie nice), but nice.

Sunday--catch up on what we skipped earlier, then off to home --stopping by the Carter%26#39;s outlet in DE perhaps :o)

Thanks to all who%26#39;ve helped so far and any who suggest things now.

';She and I like blues, so the group playing the Ram Tavern that night looks good. Can someone explain the seating to me. It%26#39;s not really much different than sitting next to people in a theater. I go to the Rams Head fairly often. Almost always sit with people I don%26#39;t know, since most of the tables are for 4 or 6. (There are a couple of tables for 2, but they are the furthest from the stage and I looked for March 9 and they are sold for that night anyway)

Sometimes I end up talking to the other folks at the table, sometimes the only interaction is a nod or a smile when you first sit down. It%26#39;s not a big deal. And you do get separate checks lol.

Don%26#39;t wait too much longer if you want to go on March 9 - there aren%26#39;t many seats left.

IrishFan described the Ram%26#39;s Head shared table environment correctly. You share the table, but since you have bought tickets it is more like theator experience. I hate mingling and small talk (I mean really hate it!), but have never had a bad experience sharing a table at Ram%26#39;s head. Conversation is completely optional before the show and during the show it is a concert environment. Like Irish, I have had some conversations at the table and other times none.

The concert room in the Ram%26#39;s Head is seperate from the restaurant and bar. It is used exclusively for concerts. The have a formal stage and decent sound equipment. You have to purchase a ticket to enter the room and seating assignments are strictly enforced. I would suggest booking tickets early if you want to attend. The accoustics are much better in the main room than the side room (to the far right of the stage).

I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ll find too much too do on Kent Island. There are a few stip malls along the highway, and a few shops off the beaten path, but it is not really a destination. If you are going to stop, I would suggest going off the path to a more quaint town like Chestertown or St. Michaels.

Since you mentioned the Carter%26#39;s outlet, there is an outlet mall in Queenstown at the intersection of 301 and 50. You might want to pop in there (you%26#39;ll drive right by it). I think that they used to have a Carter%26#39;s outlet, but I am really not sure.

By the way, Annapolis is a casual town. With so many boaters, the dress in most restaurants even the upscale ones do not require coat or tie. So don%26#39;t limit your choices by this.

By the way, as a previous poster mentioned there are outlets in Maryland right on your way in or out of Annapolis. You don%26#39;t have to go to Delaware unless you want to save the 5% in taxes but then pay for the fuel. Queenstown outlets have a Carter%26#39;s, Gymboree, Gap kids %26amp; baby, OshKosh B%26#39;Gosh, and others that sell baby clothes. They are about 7 miles from the Bay Bridge on the Eastern Shore. Happy shopping.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Any comments on Buddy%26#39;s Crabs and Ribs (www.buddysonline.com) for dinner? My wife wants the fun? of dealing with crabs in the shell.

There are better places to have the ';experience'; but if you don%26#39;t want to leave downtown, it may be your best option. Make sure they have em.

    Ocean City or Virginia Beach??

Girls trip in late July. Went to Folly Beach (SC) last year, loved it.

We are from Indiana and want to try different places each year.

    Any advice?

    Ocean City or Virginia Beach??

They are both great beach resorts . However I definately would head to O.C. Ocean City has a great boardwalk . The amusements, shops, fast food and people watching certainly add to it for me. I have done both and the thing that sticks in my mind most about Virginia Beach is there is NO parking.

    Ocean City or Virginia Beach??

OC will be the more lively of the two with more things to do and see and places to eat and drink and have a good time. If this is a girls weekend to relax, party, and let your hair down a bit, then OC is your choice in my opinion.

this subject came up a dozen times before check this link out:

    tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g41298-i101-k66917…

Hands down its OC. Be sure to hit Seacrets in the afternoon. GREAT party atmosphere....the Jim Long Band at 5 PM will have you all dancing in the sand, guaranteed. They get the whole crowd up and involved!

As someone who lives just about in the middle of the 2 - and who has spent quite a few weekends at both - OCEAN CITY, hands down. There is much more to do on the boardwalk, and everything is much more accessible. And you cant beat the shuttle bus for getting around after a few drinks!! We usually park our car and dont touch it again until time to head home.

    Hampton Inn - safe area?

Is the Hampton Inn on Dual Hwy (not Maugansville/Peak Circle) in a safe area of town. Not been to Hagerstown before and trying to get a feel for the area. Also, sounds as if feedback for this hotel is good; anybody experienced otherwise? Thanks!

    Hampton Inn - safe area?

Hey Cooter, I stay here 2 times a month for the past 3 years. It is very safe and the hootel is excellent and very clean. Bob, The night clerk will bend over backwards to make your stay pleasent, and the breakfast is outta this world. They will even pack you up a hot doggy bag for the road. Been to all the hagerstown Hotels and this is tops!!! Melanie

    Hampton Inn - safe area?

Thanks for the info! I feel better now!

Have a great stay. Lotsa nice eateries around there and the folks in Hagerstown are the salt of the earth and very friendly. Enjoy!!1

Yes, the area is safe, though not upscale. I shop in the shopping center across the Dual Hwy from it with never a problem. If you want a great dinner when you check in, I recommend Texas Roadhouse in the shopping center across the street. Good food, great staff and you can throw your peanut shells on the floor...what fun!

Is it impossible to find cheap/at beach/with pool in summer?

My husband and I are planning our first trip to OC (I was there when I was young but don%26#39;t even know where we stayed). There is just the two of us and we basically want to lay by the pool, go to the beach, and then go to the boardwalk at night for dinner and drinks...so we need: To have a pool, to be close to the boardwalk, and we want to be on the beach (ocean view is fine). It doesn%26#39;t have to be a palace but something nasty would be bad. Plus, I was hoping to pay less than $200 for sure (closer to $150 maybe??). Does this exist? I%26#39;ve checked and checked and checked and I%26#39;m starting to get confused. Also, we can go June, July or August..not sure what time is cheapest. I think I might be looking for the impossible. Any thoughts?

Is it impossible to find cheap/at beach/with pool in summer?

Unfortunately it is very difficult these days to find a decent and clean place to stay in Ocean City that is affordably priced. It seems like the hotels in the boardwalk area are either old and dumpy or outrageously priced. Also, many of the nicer independent/family owned and operated motels have been (or might soon be) torn down for condos. What I would recommend is that since it is just the two of you, why don%26#39;t you wait until after Labor Day when it isn%26#39;t so crowded but the shops and restaurants are still open for the season. Prices aren%26#39;t so high then and you can stay at a nice place without spending a fortune.

Is it impossible to find cheap/at beach/with pool in summer?

How is the weather after Labor Day? Still warm and nice? That%26#39;s the big thing...I really want to be able to go swimming etc. That sounds pretty stupid now that i type this...it is warm up here even then!

How long are you planning to stay?

    Week ??? weekend????

In general July and August will be most expensive.

    Weekends more expensive then weekdays.

You might be able to find something in your price range if you are willing to stay off the Boardwalk or something oceanside or bayside.

In most areas OC is just 4 blocks wide. So even if you stay bayside that puts you four short blocks to the beach.

As for dinner on the Boardwalk you might find some form of fast food or a few places to eat but not many options for having a sit down good meal.

There are plenty of places to eat throughout town that could provide you with a good meal and drinks off the Boardwalk.

After Labor Day the ocean water might be a little cool for swimming and the outdoor pool at your hotel.

July and August would give you the best chance of enjoying the warm weather.

    Hope this helps...

As I have suggested many times you might consider looking on this site or others, posting the dates you are planning to travel AND THEN looking into the options you have for those dates.

    hotels.com. is another.

This will give you an idea of what your choices are and go from there.

    Good luck.

This is another site that offers online checking of dates and availibility.

If you punch in the dates you wish to travel you could then check availibility and rates and options.

If you come up with options as to where you can stay then we might be able to direct you to the better options.

September is absolutely the best time....much lower rates and the ocean water is usually warmer than in June. And very few kids except on weekends. If you HAVE to go over the summer June is cheapest but some years June is not quite warm enough for ocean swimming.

I would recommend going before the rates get jacked up and thats mid June. Tidelands, PlimPlaza, and Haven hotel are a few idea for lodging. While you down there check out the area for addition hotels and night life and go back down in September when the ocean water is much warmer and the price comes back down.

The cheapest place on the boards is PlimPlaza, but no ocean front balcony. They do have a nice pool with a pool bar.

Absolutely DO NOT STAY AT THE PLIM PLAZA!!! Read the hotel reviews on this site. My husband and I learned firsthand what a dump the place is (vomit in the hallways and noone to clean it up, leaky roof in our filthy room, I could go on and on but I won%26#39;t....just read the reviews, you%26#39;ll understand). We have stayed at the Flamingo, Dunes Motel (Dunes Hotel too but that is out of your price range) and the Sahara......all old but clean. (Flamingo and Dunes off the boards, Sahara on at about 18th Street). I believe you could stay at any one of those places for under $200. And just to be fair, I will add that the Plim Plaza does have a nice outside bar with really nice bartenders!

I know the Plim Plaza is a dump, but if you want something under $200 on the boardwalk that%26#39;s the place. Everything else from mid June to August is $250 plus. Plim Plaza does have some remodeled rooms but again you get what you pay for. Have you tried Hotel Monte Carlo, it a half block from the boards and real nice. They might not be to expensive .

You could also try the Spinnaker on 18th Street. The hotel isn%26#39;t oceanfront but is just steps to the beach (no busy streets to cross). It has a large outdoor pool and the rooms are clean and not terribly overpriced. The hotel has a webpage at http://www.purnellproperties.com/spinnaker for more info and rates.

I just checked the website for Sahara Hotel which is on the boards (about 18th Street) and you can definately get a room there anytime in the summer (June thru Aug) for under $200. Also checked the rates for Flamingo and Dunes Motel which are off the boards and you can stay there for under $200 also.
